One quick question... Does the term BUMP refer to the OP creating a reply to move his/her post up to the top or does it refer to an open spot for a referal that has been filled?

Bump moves the thread to the top of the forum it is in.

it means that theyre bumping their post so it can go back to the top and be marked as a thread with a new reply so people can look at it

I also thought i read that you can only bump it once every five days after the original post
is that right?

no
its one bump every 24h
or one new topic each 3 days
but not both, so if you have bumped ure topic today, you can't make a new topic till friday or so
