It works good on some cars and it sounds like crap on other cars. Its alright but I rather just hook it up straight to the car via AUX

even on a road trip from MI to St Louis and back

or if you have a tape player use it, only use fm if you have to. itrip will not work in big cities.

I had the 1st Gen Ipod and the iTrip did not work well with that at all. I tried getting reception with the home stereo system, car stereo system, everything, and it didn't really work.

1st Generation - I think that the 1st Generation iPods are bigger than the iPod Photo.

Yeah, I've held a 60GB Ipod Photo in my hand and it's smaller than my 1st Gen. But I think its heavier though. Just FYI, I don't use the 1st Gen anymore, it just sits around in my room. I have a 6GB Mini.

II don't notice any quality loss as long as you're on a blank station.. sounds terrific and I use it all the time. If you want to play it on your radio, just set it close to the antennas, actually stereos pick the iTrip up better than combo casette/cd/player boomboxes.

but yea, definately worth the $$. I use mine all the time.

i just got my iTrip today and was having a bit of aproblem getting "empty" frequencies.....does it matter where your car is for it to work? i.e in a garage, in a tunnel, in a field etc.

i got it for $25 at target cos i had read good things about it.....i would go for the AUX option but i know nothing about cars so i wasnt sure how difficult it would be for me to do on my wife's car.....anyone explain it for a "layman"?

I live in san jose and it works fine for those of you who say it dosent work in big cities. I had it cut out for a total of 30 seconds on a trip from san jose to san luis obispo. quality is not always great but its a great way to get your ipod playing in your car.

I just purchase the Belkin TuneCast II the actual iPod one (white). I have to say I love it!

I set my ipod up right on my home stereo and I don't get any static. In my GF's car I use it as well, she doesn't have a cd/tape player combo deck. In her car I just unscrew the antenna, and don't have to worry about changing stations.

In my car I got the cassete hookup, I had the cd/tape combo. That works great. I love the Belkin, personally... Especially after reading how everyone bashes them. I am in an area where I can pick up NY, NJ, and Philly FM stations and I have no probs.

YMMV

try buying one of thos tape things from ebay
i just bought one for 8 bucks with shipping
its cheaper, and u dont lose that much quality, but u cant use it on all stereos, only car ones or where the tape slides in not one you have to open up a tape thing

I have always been a purist when it comes to audio. In my last vehicle I purchased a head unit that had Aux in and ran it right into my ipod, I wasn't going to accept any substitutes. In my new car though, replacing the head unit was not an option, while it had an mp3cd player in it, i wasn't arguing too much. On a lark I purchased the iTrip this weekend for $25 to try it out. The quality has been nothing but perfect. Deep rich bass, clear vocals. It sounds just like a direct line in.

Maybe it's the area I live in (Detroit) or a fluke, but I am in love with this little thing!

hey guys.....the car that we have at the moment is a 94 ford taurus...i dont know if the stereo is the same one that was put into the car when it was made, but would buying a new stereo make the reception/quality any better using the itrip?

EatChex89

there's always the AirPlay which tunes directly from the unit and not the iPod (which can be useful) although the iTrip is slicker.

save urseld $20 and buy the tape thing from ebay, it will def. work in your car and u dont lose too much quality

just an update......i bought the iTrip but i got shit-no reception on any stations....it couldnt find shit......so i paid another $20 on the belikn tape cassette player thing.........put it in the cassette player in the car, plugged it into the ipod, played a song and it worked perfectly.....it makes a slight ticking over noise on the off chance that your song stops when its ticking over, or when its turned down really low, but other than that, i would reccommend getting the belkin cassette car player......the quality is pretty fuckin good and my car stereo is shite.

you probably didn't use it right... i know I wasn't pressing it right either, and it wouldn't work.

It'll work on ANY station, even those that have broadcasting, except the ones with broadcasting, you'll get a little static.

theysayjump

20-05-2005 11:03:45

well thats what i thought...i tried it on 3 different digital fm radios......this is how i used it

after installing all the software and shit i plugged the iTrip into the iPod, started tuning the radio stations on the car stereo looking for "empty" stations......when i found one i played that staion on the iTrip playlist on the iPod, it would play the station and either blink 3 times or blink rapidly.

if it blinked 3 times i would pause it, go back to the music menu and play a song.....but the song would never actually play....i couldnt hear shit.....i think it worked the very 1st time i tried it, and after that it hasnt worked at all.....on both "empty" and active stations.......this was following the instruction i got with my iTrip, please tell me what im doing wrong.

thanks

To find an empty station in your area, Griffin has an app you can download from their site that tells all the empty frequencies.

theysayjump

20-05-2005 13:35:50

yeah i got that but the stations it says are empty it still wont work on those.

EatChex89

20-05-2005 21:05:36

did you pause it WHILE it's blinking rapidly.

thats what i didn't do, I waited until after it blinked rapidly then paused.

You're supposed to pause it WHILE it blinks.. not after. If it blinks slowly, pause it and then play the station again. If it still doesn't work, perform a soft reset on your iPod and try it... always works for me -D

if it STILL doesn't work, call griffin, they'll send you a new one.

theysayjump

20-05-2005 23:22:01

hmmm......i knew i was supposed to pause it if it blinked 3 times and then select the music i wanted to play.....but i didnt think i was supposed to pause, then unpause it if it blinked 3 times......oh i dont fuckin know......im just using my cassette adapter....its quicker, easier, less hassle and it works fine.

so i take i did it wrong then?

EatChex89

yea you don't unpause it

when it blinks slowly 3 times, it means that it has the station (basically a confirmation), and you can go and play your music.

theysayjump

20-05-2005 23:40:37

but if you dont pause then it just starts to tune to the next requency doesnt it?

[quote337ef09656="theysayjump"]but if you dont pause then it just starts to tune to the next requency doesnt it?[/quote337ef09656]

well yea. you pause it WHILE the red light is flashing rapidly, then once it blinks 3 times slowly. you press the 'MENU' button and go play your songs..

theysayjump

20-05-2005 23:47:29

but see on some stations it wouldnt blink 3 times.....it would scan a station, blink rapidly (which i though it meant that it had NOT found a frequency to play on) and then go onto scan the next station......but when it would blink 3 times id pause it before i got the chance to onto the next frequency.....i hardly ever got the light blinking 3 times.

like I said.. if you pause it WHILE it's blinking rapidly, it will confirm your selection by blinking 3 times slowly.. you're not supposed to let it keep scanning, because that makes it keep changing stations.
