nope but I'm gonna do it. I'm using a 20GB. The only thing that sucks is that you lose all your data so now I will have to upload all my songs again. Thanks )

you can hack the iPod's interface and make change fonts/images/etc..

(e.g. You can change the do not disconnect logo thing)

cool! thats sweet!

im not really bothered about losing all my data cos i can put it all back on, but i am bothered about my warranty being void....is there a way to restore it back to the original firmware incase of conflicts?

i imagine that just doing a firmware update with a fresh ipodUpdater.exe would set it all back to the way apple wants it.

dunno though...

apples warranty sucks anyway... so youre not voiding much ;)

ok so i tried this a couple of nights ago....it works but it took me a while to figure it out.

1st thing is that i was hacking the wrong firmware version. my ipod is 4G but the firmware is the same as the photoipods firmware.

so if you're going to do it and you have a 4G iPod then, try both 10.3.0.2 and 4.3.0.2 it can be different.

i tried a few different fonts but some you couldnt see, some were a bit fucked up and others only worked if they were big, and it just ended up looking like shite.

for the startup logo i used my avatar, and it fitted, but you cant fit much more bigger than that. at least on a 20GB anyway.

there are whole themes you can download for your iPod. i have a beatles one which is kinda cool, but they will never look as good as they would on an ipodphoto.

anyway if you try it, just make sure you make a copy of your ipod updater, so you can restore it. the hack worked fine for me and it also worked restoring the old firmware back onto it.

jump, where did you find the themes?

theysayjump

19-06-2005 14:48:47

you can get some here

http//www.ipodwizard.net/forumdisplay.php?f=4

i just tried these ones and didnt bother looking for anything anywhere else....although im sure there are other places online to get some from.

After fooling around with ipodwizard and iupdate and ihack, here is what i came up with for my photo ipod. This is my disconnect screen. I need to find a better font, and i am looking for a theme that i like. This is only temp.

i like it....yeah i need to get me an iPodphoto......that looks cool!

how long did it take you?

Peinecone

I messed around for a couple of hours today reading a couple of tutorials. Now, it only takes a couple minutes to change a graphic or text or font.

theysayjump

20-06-2005 15:31:42

yeah me too...took me ages to figure out, but now it just takes a couple of minutes....i just wish there were more places to get fonts and themes from.....did you have any problems with the fonts not looking right?

Peinecone

20-06-2005 15:34:25

ya, i messed with a bunch of fonts. With ipodwizard you can use any font though.

theysayjump

20-06-2005 15:41:52

yeah i know...some of mine were kinda sketchy, didnt look right, couldnt see the whole letters etc.

what firmware was yours?

Peinecone

21-06-2005 19:41:53

I am using 5.4.1 on my 60gb photo. A post on ipodwizard.net says which firmware to use for every gen.

I found a font called Space Toaster that looks cool on the ipod. Check it out. It was on my computer, PM me if you want me to send it to you. I also changed my disconnect logo to my new avatar. Looks very clean )

theysayjump

21-06-2005 20:12:38

i changed my disconnect logo to my avatar, but the font was kinda fucked up......its probably cos im using a 20GB.....yeah ill PM you for that font cos i dont have it.

I did this a couple of months ago before I sold my ipod and it was pretty kool. There is a program that helps you not reset your ipod to get your changes. This program is called Ihack. its very helpful, I had about 1500 songs and I never had to reset my ipod to get the changes.

yeah ive got ihack also, it helped with hacking the ipod to make the updater think the modified firmware needed updated.

[quote79edfbae2d="theysayjump"]yeah ive got ihack also, it helped with hacking the ipod to make the updater think the modified firmware needed updated.[/quote79edfbae2d]For some reason, ihack didn't work for my photo ipod. So i got iupdate to do the same thing and it worked great.
