The PSP I got from Gratis has 1 stuck (bright blue) pixel right in the middle of the screen so it's annoying as hell. I plan to get rid of it and get one with no stuck pixels by going to a local store of mine (not Walmart) and buying a PSP, taking it home, putting my other fully charged battery in it, running a stuck pixel test, verifying that the PSP is version 1.5 (so I can play Emu's) and then putting my free PSP back in the box being careful of the packaging and returning it to the store...Think it'll work?

You may want to try this

If you fix it, you don't have to worry about going back and forth incase the new one you get has stuck pixels too. Give it a shot, it flashes colors to the screen to "unstuck" the pixels. This works with STUCK pixels, and not DEAD pixels.

that might be why people get dead pixel ones in the first place. When the next person buys the "new" pps from walmart, and then returns it (complaining of the stuck pixel) the store sends them back to the vendor. Maybe the vendor sells them cheaper to a distributer who is giving them to people who cant complain.
OR
that might be why people get dead pixel ones in the first place. bc of their previous bad karma from doing bad things.
haha, not saying you are doing bad things. I'm just trying to give you helpful advice bc i think this stuff comes back to you. wink

I just did it guys. Verified a flawless screen, version 1.5, and loading of UMD's correctly. Junior, all PSPS RIGHT NOW have Version 1.5...But if you're gonna do it, do it fast cause I feel like Sony is gonna update the firmware because 1.5 just got cracked.

I went to a local "Meijers" store. I don't know if there is one by you. But the best thing to do I believe is to call them beforehand (either Bestbuy or CompuUSA) and tell them
"Hi. I plan on buying a PSP but am weary because of the dead pixel problems I hear it's been having. I just want to know if I buy it, open it, and turn it on to find dead pixels, will I be granted a full (say this as this means money back, not store credit) refund???"
And then go by what they say...If no, try someone else. If yes, hit them up.

cool. Im gonna try this tomorrow
I got 2 20$ circuit city giftcertificates from Great fun
I was gonna buy a psp game with it but if I try to do the psp trick there
they will charge me 15% (almost 40$) a restocking fee for sure
But like you said the best route would be to call all the local electronics stores and see who has the best return policy.

Also dude, when you finally buy it and bring it home, note how everything is. The little piece of tape that seals the box fortunently can be taken off one side of the box without ripping off any of the cardboard box either. Be very careful and meticulous about how you open it and making sure everything that was inside in a particular fashion is kept that way when you're done putting your PSP in there (assuming no dead pixels). If it doesnt work and the one you bought does have dead pixels, exhcange. Only return when flawless.
