Woods is in fact, the highest paid athlete according to Forbes.
If the question was 'who is the most recognized?' the answer would be different. I bet Zidane, Henry, Ronaldo, and Beckham are more recognized around the world. Soccer is more 'democratic'.

id say beckham........football is the most popular sport in the world, and he is probably the biggest star. he's huge all over the world, whereas tiger woods is minaly huge in the states i think, cos although golf is a big sport, its not as big as football.
so beckham has the potential to be known ALL over the world, but the chances of tiger being known in south american or african countries is kinda slim.
thats the way i see it anyway.....i dont like beckham though.......i think youd have to be Scottish to get it lol.

Not any more. I mean he can sell apparel and sneakers but cant command 35 mil a year for the team he plays for. Plus he only took in like 2 mil playing for the wizards while the owners raped him for all the revenue he brought to the team. His Jordan collection will live on for generations as Im sure the jumpman logo is the official basketball logo for the street. Tiger remember earns 50 mil a year just for golf.
Anyone think the kid Freddy Adu, Lebron james, or Dwayne Wade will have a big global impact in years to come?

The thing about golf is that is viewed as more prestigious and illustrious. So basically Tiger Woods is the only US athelete that has an advertisement deal with a car company nationwide ( Buick) Not too sure if this extends to soccer but Im not sure of their endorsments. Tiger also commanded 100 mil from Nike before there was any proof that Nike supporting golf would have any inancial benifits. The clubs by Nike were always precieved as being inferior. Look at how that view has changed since Tiger started to endorse it. I just think that Tiger gains more money per endorsement deal. Now I could be wrong this is just my assessment. Also winning just 1 tour event will get you like a mil and change. And he wins a lot. Wouldnt bball players like to be paid on a per game basis.
who the hell is paying Vick all that money. Powerade?

the thing is though, that none of those people, not one single one of them, deserve to paid what they get for what they do.

that is true but we are the idiots driving up those prices. If there is big demand then youll be paid for it. And we cant kid ourselves sports is big buisness. If we just boycott sporting events for a year and they come back at half salary it might be better but you and I know we cant live without sports and having the best players play. I think theyre only asking what the market will give them. I cant complain either. When I look for a job Im looking for my market value and maybe a little more with benifits.

LOL all you Shaq haters should capatalize on this. Shaq makes likes 32 mil just from bball. What endorsemenets does he have? The only thing I could think of is the Icy hot patch. God damn is that all he can sell. I mean that product sounds like its urban nutrition or 1800 Patches.

just found this on forbes.com
www.forbes.com/newswire/2003/06/15/rtr1000372.html
SHAQ SHOES FOR CHEAP
But not every endorsement deal justifies the extravagance.
"There are so many great players with so many sneaker deals, it's really fussing up the value of them because people are getting confused." said Jack Trout, president of Trout and Partners, a marketing strategy firm.
Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal saw their sponsorship contracts canceled by the shoe companies. Analysts said it was because their sports images do not sell well among consumers.
Wells Fargo's Shanley said there is a line of Shaquille O'Neal signature shoes now selling for $9.99 at discount retailer Kmart Holding Corp. (nasdaq KMRT - news - people) because no one else would pick them up.

"Shaq's endorsements have been estimated to earn him between $8 million and $10 million a year."
o and btw... another quote

All i got from that link was
Game 2 of the NBA Finals, the burden of carrying the Lakers to victory over Indiana fell on Shaquille O'Neal. Bringing his many talents to bear, Shaq dominated the game on both ends of the floor.
The Pacers were using the collapsing "Hack-a-Shaq" defense in the hope of reducing the league MVP's production. O'Neal made them pay by quickly passing out of the double teams, creating open shots for Glen Rice and Ron Harper, who each scored 21 points.
Despite failing to make 50 percent of his foul shots, [b975af16f11]Shaq scored 40 points. He attempted a Finals record 39 free throws and made 18. , He shot 11-of-18 from the field, grabbed 24 rebounds and handed out four assists en route to a 111-104 Lakers win. [/b975af16f11]
