I read that and another story saying google is coming out w/ a toolbar for firefox, but I wonder why b/c the only thing people use it for usually is to search quickly or a popupblocker and both of those are built into firefox....I guess I don't get it.....

i have so much spyware on my work computer (probably from all these free sites) that the google toolbar won't even load onto my IE..... so now i just have to block popups myself.

Just use customized hosts files. They work better then a popup blocker anyways. )

If I'm not mistaken, they keep track of what ip addresses are associated with what web addresses. So you can set the addresses of sites known for ads, like doubleclick, to the ip address of your own computer. That way they can't load.

not to jack this thread, but i run spybot and panda software once daily, have tons come up in the "results" of those, dont know what's being fixed or not because the same ones show up daily, and i continue to get popups. plus i have symantic anti-virus and that shows a trojan somewhere in my system that cant be fixed.

weird thing is, i dont have anti-virus at home, run spybot once in a while, never have popups. i do have ad crap though, but just reformat my pc once in a while to clear everything out.

i have used this 2 step program to never have any popups ever again

1. reformat computer
2. install firefox (from CD, don't even download it or open IE)

i have not had 1 popup in 6 months

i have no idea....Symantec pops up a window that says trojan virus.....tried to fix....quarrantine denied......buncha numbers.......i've never had any work affected by viruses though.....its like they're here but inactive.

if i could reformat my work computer, i would. (

well in a test of about 50 anti-virus programs, Kaspersky came out on top......thats why i use it, and if it finds a virus or trojan or whatever, it removes it straight away.....ive had no problems with my computer since using Kaspersky, and i used to use Panda also.

and you will need more than one spysweeper app to find and remove spyware and adware. i use Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spy Sweeper and Microsft Anti-Spyware.

i run them at the end of each day, as well as a clean up app (privacy eraser pro), PC Bug Doctor, a registry cleaner, registry defragger and then a defrag (O&O Defrag).

my computer runs sweet! lol
