After about 3 years of metal in my mouth. I got my braces off today. It's pretty awesome, feels slimey. The retainer is what sucks because I don't like the taste of it. And I drool a lot lol..

Congrats. Retainers don't suck. Its what's keeping your dental investment intact.

Congrats! Doesn't it feel SO F'ING weird to have them off? Everyone says it feels slimey and it really does! The retainer will suck the first few days but make sure you keep it in or your teeth will shift - the doctor isn't bullshitting there. I couldn't talk and gagged all the time when I was given my retainer but I eventually got used to it. Just make sure you don't break it or else you'll have to wait forever for a new one.

After I got my braces off, I didn't wear my retainer. I went through too much pain and annoyance to have to wear that thing for however long you're supposed to. But it is true, my teeth have shifted slightly again. I think that's mostly cause my wisdoms are finally coming in.

I think retainers are a scam, lol. I lost mine after wearing it for 6 months and didn't want to buy a replacement, 8 years later my teeth have barely moved and are still straight. Maybe I just got lucky though.

even though i looked like a tard with braces and they were painful at times, i will never regret going through the 4 years I had them. i enjoy my straight teeth and always will.

i went to college with a girl who had braces for 8+ years. and one of my friends in high school needed hers only 1 year. but those aren't the norm.

i bet i still have my retainer somewhere. if i could get it in? i doubt it.

soak it in listerine/mouthwash for a couple hours a day until the plastic-y taste goes away. and if you're somewhere where you cant soak it and the taste bothers you, just swish with mouthwash while the retainer's in.

one of my friends in grade school had a glow in the dark retainer. i think they used to make them in flavors too, if they still dont today.

i had braces for 14 months and when i got mine off it did feel slimey and i drooled a lot for the first couple of days. be sure to wear your retainer. i got mine off in march of 2003 and i still wear my retainer 4-5 nights a week. my teeth are still straight too.

I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth (they were really crooked) so I never wore the one for my top teeth (the boyfriend says my slight overbite makes my lips look pouty and sexy roll ).

I had mine for two years, and I remember how small my teeth felt, how slimey and how big my mouth felt after they took them off. It was soo odd getting used to it.
