I just hope van Gundy gets a chance to coach. Riley is good and knows basketball but I think its better to leave Ron Jeremy as the coach. Players do respect him and hes only been head coach for 2 years of course theres going to be a learning curve. If Riley does takeover Heat will be guaranteed favorite but it will just show him as selfish. Something the Heat should not be about. Even with all the big names on the team it seems like everyone is willing to sacrifice for the better of the team. Riley neds to stay his a$$ in his office.

I think he released a press release a day or two ago saying he wasn't going to go over Gundy's head, so we're okay in that regard. Just need to finish up that Shaq deal, resign DJ, and we're good.

Not too sure about that public statement. remember what L brown said as well. I dont believ press releases anyways. There just a pr tool never really truthful. Dr jack ramsey who was involved with the Heat organaztion has said that Riley has indicated to Ron Jermey that he plans to coach next year. Wouldnt be far fetched either you know Riley is dying to get back in the spotlight. You know he lives for it. I think the heat should let damon go. He can shoot threes but is a defensive liability. D Fisher was allowed to be a defensive liability because Kobe was 6-6 and became a very good defender. D Wade is only 6-4 and still has along ways too go defensively. Heat should invest in a penetrating guard that can D-up and still get the ball to the right people and occasionally hit a three. Antonio Daniels would be lovely and then Resign Jones and have him come off the bench would be clutch. As far as Shaq resigning thats a given. He likes the orgaqnaztion and no other team can come close to what the Heat can even lowball at him.

I figure Riley is in next year, and as far as LB goes oh well.....Flip will do the job just fine....Heat will be tough if Shaq ever learns that it's not all about him. Oh well I like the heat minus Shaq, but it's true he'll be back there ( Anyway the Pistons will still reign w/ or w/out Brown...I mean he wasn't hardly there this year. Like an article I read a few weeks agos ..."it's a Spurs, Pistons NBA for the forseeable future...."

just smoked a bowl so I may be all over the place with this one.

As far as the Psitons go

R Wallace's best hope was L Brown. With L Brown, rasheed gained the referress respect and was able to jaw at them at certain times during the playoffs and trust me the refs hate him. The only reason he didnt get techs is b/c L Brown demands a lot of respect with the officials and they let Rasheed slide just for him. now that LB is gone rasheed will turn to his old ways and bitch about everything buit now he wont get any leniency from the refs. I predict he breaks his own record for techs next year. Everyone will be saying what a year a diference makes. Artest will retun to the floor and will calm out b/c he knows he has too much to lose if he doesn't. rasheed will go crazy at times and will once again be percieved as the NBA's badboy. And hes still gonna be remembered for leaving Horry at the end of game 5.

Flip is ok but not that great. He couldnt get Spree or Cassell to focus think hes gonna have better success with Rasheed and Chauncey? I see the Pistons falling back to the 3-4 maybe even 5 seed next year. The top 2 spots are gonna be a fight between Ind and Mia. Figure the Atlantic division winner gets the 3rd seed by default and then CAvs and Pistons will do battle for the 4 and 5 spots. Wow thats gonna be an incredible 1st round matchup. Be really interesting if L Brown is with the Cavs next year and this is the 1st round matchup.

Shaq will be fine next year dont worry about it. Not sure who the coach is gonna be but I think if anything they should just both coach. Van Gundy has the title and makes pretty much all game time decisions but Riley comes in and helps with practices and expresses ideas to Van Gundy on what would be good for the team.

Bottom line but I could be wrong is that losing L Brown is a much bigger loss than it may seem. I know the Pistons did fine without L Brown and won divisions but R Carlisle was the coach. I think Carlisle is much a better coach than Flip. How Carslile was able to get the Pacers to the 2nd round of the playoffs after the aftermath of the brawl and injuries is incredible. No idea why he didnt get coach of the year. Flip will be in way over his head in Det and the players will know. End of the Pistons reign

How did the Pacers make it to the 2nd round this year??? Hello I mean they played the Celtics the first round.....What did the celtics have Pierce, Walker, and Payton....Walker decided not to show up, and we all know Payton just needs to hang it up, and there is only so much Pierce could do. Indiana underachieved even w/ all the "adversity" they faced....lol what a bunch of bull...

It's all about the LAKERS in '06. They are going for "youngest team in the league" award.

Is L Odom really going to be the 2nd in charge like Kobe and Pippen were to Jordan and Shaq? Why trade Butler also? I think he had the most consistent season of any Laker last year. K Brown. LOl you better hope Phil can work some magic. Lakers ned to make another trade and try to land another superstar or they're not going anywhere.

Miami wont be a 1st or 2nd seed. Shaq is way too old and you saw how he crumpled in the playoffs (they needed alonzo who is also ancient). Indiana is going to be good with Artest and O'neal. The Cavs are gonna be in 2nd place atleast.. LeBron will average I think 28 ppg 7 reb 8 asst. Plus they got Donyell Marshall, Larry Hughes, and Ilgauskas. Definately a great team.
In the west, it will be the Spurs and Pheonix battling it out. And for 3rd place will be the Mavs.

one thing you can redit your first post to include the point about Chicago. What you did is consider a double post here and is frowned upon on this site.

Shaq is not way too old. He was injured last year and they even kept him out of the Was series b/c of the need to have him play against the Pistons. Chicago played ok last year but there far from being an elite team. They got beat up by Was in the 1st round and Was got dominated by the Heat without Shaq. That means that D Wade and Haslme can single handly destroy Chi themselves.

Also Chi might not be keeping Curry for next year. That will be a big loss.
If Curry leaves I predict they wont even make the playoffs

I do agree with you about Ind and Cleveland though. D Marshall and Hughes to cleveland will be huge and their a playoff lock.

East next year

1 Mia/Ind
2 Mia/Ind
3 NJ/Bos/Phi
4 Det/cle
5 Cle/det
6 NJ/Bos/Phi
7 NJ/Bos/Phi
8 Was

West

1 SA
2 PHX
3 Den
4 Hous
5 Min
6 Sea/Dal
7 Golden State
8 Lakers/Clippers

One La team will make the playoffs I'll put my money with Lakers only bc Phil Jackson is coach.

I dont think the lakers have a shot at the playoffs. They did a very stupid draft choice and did a very stupid trade for kwame brown. And sorry about the double-post I'm new to this forum.

PS I think the warriors will do better than the twolves.
PPS Phil Jackson isnt a good coach.. hes just had good players.

Edit PPPS Shaq blew in the series vs. the pistons.

any detroit fans who still belive Flip is the answer need to read this article.

http//sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=whitlock/050721&num=0

You realize the only reason Flip made it out of the CBA is because he's best friends with McHale? They were college roommates at Minnesota. Flip was a CBA lifer -- head coach and front-office executive -- until McHale took over the Wolves and needed a yes-man to watch his back. McHale hired Flip as general manager. A few months later, McHale named his college buddy head coach.

Flip went seven straight years unable to get The Big Ticket out of the first round of the playoffs. Why do you think Flip survived that drought?

oddjob1266

21-07-2005 12:01:24

I don't think Flip is the answer at all ( I really wish Davidson would of pulled his head out of his ass and kept LB, but he's the owner w/ all the money so what can I do? However, I do not think that Flip can ruin the team as much as what everyone here is claiming. They will be at least a 3 seed, and I really don't think Cleveland has a shot of overtaking Detroit this year. LeBron can only do so much. Indiana...well they depend on O'Niel not being too worried about how racist the game is, and on Artest not striving to pursue his rap career anymore. They'll be tough, but an injury here or there, and they've got nothing again.

Lebron will have significant help next year. Im talking very significant that I'm getting worried they may compete with the Heat next year.

Starting 5

pg Lithuainian dude ( this guy playd at Maryland and practically destroyed Team USA at the Olympics in Athens) What Ive heard great point guard wit great vision and amazing lights out shooting stroke.

SG L Hughes. 1st team all def nba. Can scroe 20+ 5 reb 5 ass. and he lead the league in steals last year. Him and Lebron will be hawking passing lanes and creaing a fast break styled offense off of turnovers. I invision something close to Jordan and Pippen with 2 perimeter players who D up and harass.

SF Lebron --- Nuff said

PF Gooden/Marshall -- Marshall is very good to have on the floor. He can shoot the 3 rebound and block. Id start Marshall over Gooden to space the floor and get wide open 3's off of Lebron and Hughes penetration

C Ilgauskaus Very awkward man but hes tall and can score. Hey Jordan had Bill Wennington..

Cleveland is very serious. I'd be worried about them and you know next year is huge for Lebron. If he doesnt make the playoffs then his image will take a hit and he cant use the excuse that he doesnt have good people around him.

I dont think he can leave now without taking a major PR hit. Theyve committed a winning team to him now with very good players. If he leaves after the season then it wont be because Clevealand cant field a good team but that Lebron will have more financial incentives playing in a bigger city.

Ive been hearing a lot of reports that Brown will coach the Knicks. My first reaction as a Knicks fan was woohoo he'll get us to the playoffs then I just realized.

The knicks backcourt will be

Marbury
Crawford
Q Richardson/Ariza

Thats 3 selfish players who shoot a low percentage and are very turnover prone.

with no real front court help ( T. Thomas, Sweetney, Frye) Thats not exactly Wallace X 2 and Prince.

No way Im believing LB left a championship level team to coach this team with health problems. I think this is just a posturing move to look like he wasnt going to go to Clev all along. Think he'll bait isiah Thomas into believing hes interested and then bail out and opt to take a front office position with the Cavs.

All Lakers' fans/Lakers' lovers loved Shaq when he was in L.A., but now since he's moved to Miami he's suddenly "old" and "not that great". Tell me someone in the league who can shut him down, lets say 50% of the time down the court, ONE ON ONE. Not a single person can do that in the league as of right now. Sure, his freethrow % is down from other years, but he still commands the same amount of double/triple teams as he's done before. Add to that the incentive to win a title in Miami + prove Kobe/Dr. Buss wrong, and you've got a winning combo ) That is, if they (the Heat) are healthy come playoff time. Isn't too far fetched to think Miami would've won in 5 had the roster been 90-100%.
