I always get credit card aps in the mail, but I don't think I have good credit. And I'm always to scared to check for fear I'll be disapointed.

About a year I believe...I'm 19 now (20 in just under a month). I only have 1 credit card (Citi Platinum Select Dividends for College Students) other than my HSBC Bank Card (which acts like a MasterCard, but does NOT build credit). I figure if I can get along with 1, why carry any more? Never made a late payment, never missed a payment, etc.

just make sure you dont get to the point where you have to pay of one CC with another....then you WILL be fucked.

CC's can be a dangerous business (so ive heard, never had one and i dont plan on it), a few of my friends got into that shit and eventually ended up in debt.

I've always wondered if someone could just run up thousands in debt, leave their shit somewhere (storage, friends house, etc.) and leave the country....the come back as an immigrant with a new identity to claim their shit and do it all again? Seems fool proof...probably be easier to get a job, too...seeing as how American companies these days seem to love to hire anyone that's NOT American.

yeah i got my job quite quickly wink

there are people who just max out all their cards, buy all sorts of shit that they want or need, get the car repaired, fix up the house, xmas presents and shit and then every 7 years they file for bankruptcy, then start the same shit all over again.

Think its pretty hard to come back an an immigrant once you leave the country especially with all this terrorist activity. Sure there are ways but was it really worth leaving the country for 10-15,000. Plus when you get back as an immigrant you'll need a social secuirty card and a greencard would be nice too. Doesnt seem like its worth the trouble. Suppose it could be done but doesnt seem to llok like its worth it. Probably just safer to file for bankruptcy and get out of debt that way. Leaving the country where your renouncing your citizenship on the expectation that youll be coming back is not a good idea.

Its sad how CC companys make money off of the poor. I mean their entire business is surrounding over that.

Don't let them make money off of you. I have 4 credit cards, and my credit rating is also excellent...never made a late payment, etc...

My rule of thumb is never use a credit card unless you could basically walk to the bank and pull out the same amount of money in cash to fund your credit purchase...that way, you're always covered.

I've been using credit cards since I was 16...you NEED to build a credit history so that you can get a loan someday for a house/car/etc...you need credit to live )

Exactly. So many people are afraid of credit so they don't do anything about it. But when time comes for their credit to be checked, oh my it's non-existent... You just have to use it responsibly. I have this one friend who basically does what uwmarchitect says - he uses his cards like cash. He's never paid interest in his life, and in only a few years has built an excellent rating. The jerk has over $14,500 in credit available to him P
