How were you referred to the free site world?

I was referred by visiting this xbox forum way back when free ipods came out. This guy posted it in the tech discussion and noone was sure if it would work but free ipods had the eBay offer and you could sign up with a walla account and get credit or something so a bunch of people were getting their iPods so I decided to try.
So how did you get referred to free sites? By the way, I'm not 100% sure but I think I referred nate08 to the free world through an eBay auction for a free ipod shuffle. He'll have to confirm with me to be sure though.

Well, I have deleted all the emails and closed all the pop-ups for a long time, and also ignored all the ebay ads. It wasn't until last month when I clicked on one of the ebay auctions that had a title that said it was a PSP, never said anything about it being free in the title and at the time I was looking to purchase a PSP. I went into the auction and saw another link to FreePSPs.com yet again. But before I closed it, I noticed a link to the Yahoo Business Article on Gratis and read it. At that point I thought to myself "Oh shlit, this really works". Then I did some google searches and ended up here somehow, so I started at FreeIPodGuide forums. Didn't try to do anything on my own, just read around the forums and started trading ). Now, one month and 5 days later, I have 2 free items, I am processing on many. By August 15th (my 2 month point), I should be at about the 9-10 gift mark if everything goes as planned )

When I first moved out to the West coast I wanted to get a DVR because all the East coast basketball games start at around 4430 here and I'm usually at work until 530-6. I was getting upset that I wasnt able to watch some of these games(Heat) and decided it would be pretty cool if I just got a DVr and recorded the games that way so I wouldnt be missing naything. I did a search on google and yahoo for dvrs and somehow got search results for OC's Dvrs4free. Very weird. Did some research here and there and next thing I know I found this site. Now Im recieving gifts and getting my post count up to 700 now.

ForthAndBack.
I met him via a college IT class, and it turned out we lived in the same apt. building.
Needless to say I was fresh meat to him, and once he showed me how it worked (and got a ref or two outa me ;) ) - I was hooked.
I dont really see or talk to him anymore, but I'm pretty sure he's still in the freebie biz, just not on the forums.

i found out about freeipods.com just a few weeks after the site was launched, but disregarded it as junk (like most people) and moved on. almost a year later, my friend called me asking if i wanted to sign up under him, and i did rememebr the site and said i would give it a try
the rest is history )

lol in other words you got used, its ok i was like that to. Though in other sense it also made me want to persue more freebies. When i started out with freeipods it was a pain, since it took me months to get my 5 referrals, and that was after some guy helped me with his site. Well after that i did mp3players4free, finished that painstakingly. But after all that i finally got the hook of a few things and started to do well, and then i figured it would be a nice way to make money since i dont have a job or anything. (Just a student) To this date i can estimate i've made around $5000+ in freebies.

I was actually hooked on freebies way before any of the free sites started to get popular. I found out about freeipods.com back in August on a freebie forum I visit often and about fipg the same time because fipg showed proof that it would work.

i heard about it on The Screeen Savers tv show on G4techtv.
nobody was sure if it was a scam or not so one of the guys completed the site and chose the $250 check, then after that show it was all over the place.
i started last year but thought it was a scam and couldnt be arsed, then i stumbled on it again and started back up.

Well my advice to you, start doing sites, since thats the only way to get big money. Sure doing sites for money is ok, but you will alawys be on a tight budget if you do that. Take it from me, i've tried both. Anyways start doing sites, though it may bring upon a minor dent on your budget ($50-$80, depends on what you do) in the end the reward is greater.

I agree with compfreak. I started out by doing referrals for cash. Once I had enough cash built up I started to pay for refs and now I am making tons more than before. Just think about it this way. You're chosen prize is 250$ for 6 refs, and you spend 120$ (assuming you pay 20$ for each one) on referrals. In the end you receive your 250$, and you make a 130$ profit. That is how to really make these sites pay off.

oh i know how to do it all, get money, refs etc, but the only site i was looking for was freedesktoppc,a nd im on hold there so i kinda gave up.
maybe ill start trading for money and then start on a site and keep going from there......cant do any harm....as long as there are offers to do of course D

I read about freeipods in a magazine article, but it wasn't available to Canadians at the time. When a pop-up said that it was now available to Canadians, I signed up. Soon after, I found this site on Google.

Damn, I might have started before anyone...
I started last June. I just moved into my dads house from my moms and didn't have a job yet. I was bored because my girlfriend who I used to see every day was left behind. I was searching ebay and started seeing those "get free items" auctions. So, finally I bought one for 99 cents and it showed Gratis' freevideogames. I started doing that along with freegiftplant and freedvds...
My first free items were an Game Cube, DVD player, and gift cards all from those first sites. This was back in the way beginning when a credit card offer was enough for a Game Cube.
I quit for a while and then in February someone from another forum asked me to sign up under him and I did and never looked back. I found this forum on google.

I saw someone post their ref link on a different forum and the wired article saying it was legit. I didn't use the dude's ref, but that's when it started.
