How long does you iPod battery last?

I just got my new iPod Color screen last Friday (traded the grayscale free one from Gratis at the Apple store and paid $30) and I am wondering about the battery life.

Of course the site says you can get "up to" 10 hours of play. but I am not getting even half of that, I have tried all the power saving measures; turning the backlight off, not skipping songs much, not view photos etc. and I am not happy at all. I am thinking of taking it in and getting Apple to look at it but that is a last resort.

Basicly I am thinking that if I can only expect to get four or five hours then I will live with it, but I expect more because Apple says you should get more.

I've alawys notice Ipod batterys suck, and thats from playing around with 2 ipods. Never seem to last the quoted time, i alawys get a bit over 1/2

i get more then 5 hours out of my 40gb photo ipod...take it to the apple store that happened with the one i got my gf hers lasted for like 30min before it cut off they just grabbed a new one and gave it to her no ?'s asked.

I get 35 on my player. P

You can just trade an ipod in for a newer model if you pay a little? Was that difficult?

my 15gb 3g can get maybe 3 1/2 hrs if im lucky. i often dont even make the full trip from dallas to oklahoma city (3hrs).

mine was new in the box, but it was the gray scale. So took it to the Apple store and traded it for the Color screen version without opening it.

I have the 6GB with the "18 hour" battery. Not even close. Maybe like 8 hours if I'm LUCKY.
