Cnet's stuff on it

(I personally think it began w/ rumors early in the year, though it's very likely that apple is actually working on a video application of some sort, trying to get a head of competition like the psp and w/e other companies would develop one)

anyways my question is I have 8 greens for photo ipod, should I wait a month and see if gratis would change the photo one, or should I get my photo ipod and hope that gratis makes a separate "free video ipods" website?

I haven't read any of the articles. but is the video taking over the photo? If it's not than I don't think gratis would replace the photo w/ the video. And you also know how gratis is with new items. You get them about a month or two after they come out.

i would definitely say the latter ... an iPod that plays videos won't happen in 2005, i can almost guarantee that ... to develop something 'new'ish like that, you wouldn't have steve jobs saying 'who knows what'll happen down the road?' within a month of release ... besides which he also said that there hasn't been a very profitable portable video player except those that play standard dvd's ...

No portable video player is going to catch on unless it will play standard DVDs. People don't want to buy their favorite movies in all kinds of different formats. The only thing that would make it possible is if Apple made it quick and simple to copy and compress a DVD for use on the video ipod.

ya if they had a 2-step synching process, whereby you put in a dvd and plug in your viPod (yes i just made up that term lol), and it rips/compresses the dvd and puts it onto the viPod then it could work .... but it can't be pocket-sized either imho ... the psp's smaller than the smallest i'd go for watching movies, so if it was the same size i don't think it would catch on

I cant imagine why any would want to watch any video on their ipod.. Gazing into that tiny screen doesnt seem like an enjoyable viewing experience to me.

Heh I've already had a video harddrive player for a while now. It does like everything. Screw iPods.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Apple is taking a different approach with their video ipod. Judging by what iTunes can do now, I'd assume that hit songs are going to be sold with their music videos attached. And instead of showing album art the screen will play the video in time with the song. And I think it will be out by christmas time this year. If not, expect it in February of 06.

As big as a normal iPod. It's the iAudio X5L. It has 35 hours of battery life, movies, music, radio, and a bunch more. Just google it or something.
