I just ordered a new laptop from Dell today using their 40% off coupon, and I just realized I need to a way to connect it to my router. My router isn't wireless, and there's no point in getting one since I'm leaving for college in a little over a month. I also can't connect my laptop to the router, since I'd need about a 50 ft cord. There's already a 50ft cord running to my room, so if there was a way to split that into two jacks that would work. The question is, does anything like that exist? roll I think I might have seen one on eBay, but I don't know what keyword to search for. "ethernet splitter" gives me something else, which I don't want.

Not sure if this is what you need, but i think youd need a switch

yeah you need a switch, but if you aren't going to be using many ports you could probably get by with a hub. Hubs can get overloaded with network traffic but since you're only using 3 different things you'd probably only need the hub which would be cheaper, that said I'll bet you could get a decent switch at best buy nowadays for $20 or so.
Edit http//www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=3855625&type=product&productCategoryId=cat01033&id=1051384160767 something like this... much sure you could find it cheaper if you wanted to wait on shipping. You plug the incoming 50 foot cable to the "uplink" port and then plug your computer and laptop into one of the other free ports.
