I'm going to sell all my stuff I got for free. I have never sold anything on ebay before so I don't know where to start. I have heard to not set a reserve price and to start the auction in the middle of the day so people wont be sleeping when the auction ends. How much do you think I can get for all this stuff? Anything else I should know or consider?

1) I have a PSP used about 3 times with Wipeout Pure.
2) I have a used xbox with 2 controlers, DVD adapter and I think 5 games Amped, THPS4, Halo, Halo2, GTA3.
3) I have an unopened PS2 slim.

Thanks in advance for any tips guys!

Some tips
-Make your auction bold, it helps a lot.
-Start your auction around 100 on Sunday - I have found it has been the best time to start an auction
-Consider starting the auction at $1.00 or $.01 - I know it sounds crazy but people will start bidding and it will become a quest for the item and a competition
-Offer free shipping if possible. Make it very clear that you pay what you bid!
-If you have "0" feedback, I do not reccomend selling those kinds of items first. I know this is somewhat stupid but buying recipes or ebooks from some sellers first (each one being different) may help you look a little better of a seller. You should also sell some smaller things first (like used clothes or toys for example).
-Create an About Me page and spend 20 minutes making it look nice, it really helps if people can trust you.

As for prices, it really varies. But perhaps it could be around the following [prices may be too low]

PSP - $165

XBOX - $150

PS2 Slim - $115-125

Thanks nate08. I have +3 good feedback. Does that sound alright? Thanks for the tips on the about me page, I'll do that.

I would feel cautious buying from a seller with only 3 feedback, especially something that has the value of $150+.

Perhaps you could hold off selling things for another week and this week you could sell some small things you have laying around your house.

Having 10 more feedback (where you sold) may increase the value of your auctions by 10-18%

Make sure you only ship to buyers with confirmed addresses (to make sure, set your paypal to only accept payments automatically from confirmed addresses). Look up Seller protection to guard yourself from being scammed. I agree with nate about maybe waiting a bit and upping your feedback though.

I'm wary of ebay, even with 250+ feedback. I've never sold stuff over $150 but I'm going to sell off some stuff soon too.

I could trade them into GameStop. They will give $90 for a ps2, $70 for the xbox, and I think $140 for the PSP. Maybe I could use a middle man.

hehehhehe

15-08-2005 14:53:43

I'm sure you'll do better than that on ebay.

I've done well and have sold some high price things in the past. Just make a clean looking page for each item. The more professional it looks, the more people are likely to consider placing a bid. No spelling mistakes. If I see a spelling mistake, I don't even consider an item.

Also be upfront about cost of shipping. Ebay allows you to add in shipping and handling costs, but don't go over board. As an example, there are lots of people that will charge $20 for shipping on a 1lbs item that actually costs $3.85 to ship. If you do included a handling fee, state what it is and why it is included. Like a fee od $1.75 is added into shipping costs to cover shipping materials. People appreciate knowing they aren't getting screwed on shipping costs if everything is known upfront.

You also may want to include some terms and conditions about refunds and returns. Check out other listings for ideas.

As far as payment, highly consider only taking paypal or US Postal money orders. I no longer accept personal checks due to some major problems I encountered from some individuals trying to send fake checks.

Thats my 2 cents

I used to make a pretty healthy wage buying and reselling on eBay. A couple of hints (though I'm not going to tell you all my secrets).

You're right Sunday's are a good day to list things. Consider when you'll get the widest audience for the things your selling. Since it's electronics, there's not a particularly better time to sell, since they appeal to everyone for the most part. I would therefore start making your listing around noon PST on a Sunday and do a 7 day auction. You can also start it on a Tuesday and do a 5 day auction. Lately I've just been doing 3 day auctions on things that sell well and are in demand. The longer auction times are for things that need lots of exposure to attract a buyer (like a car). Don't schedule your listing to start at a specific time, unless you have a very good reason, or won't be able to list it until much later in the evening.

As someone else mentioned, start your auction at $0.01 with no reserve - the market will price your item, plus that's the cheapest listing cost. Your goal should be to give eBay as little money as possible. That also means, DO NOT use eBay's photo service. Use Photobucket or Imageshack and hotlink the photos (you are taking lots of photos right, and good sharp clear photos) into your auction. Whether to include a gallery photo is up to you - they're expensive and despite what eBay says, I tend to think they don't help with the final price, unless you're selling clothing where someone wants a quick look at the item. PS2s, PSPs and Xboxs all look the same and everyone knows what they look like, therefore, IMO, no reason to include a gallery photo. Also don't use any of the stupid layouts eBay offers. They don't add anything to your auction and are just another way for them to make money.

[quote2394655a28="hehehehe"]Make sure you only ship to buyers with confirmed addresses (to make sure, set your paypal to only accept payments automatically from confirmed addresses). Look up Seller protection to guard yourself from being scammed.[/quote2394655a28]

Do not accept Western Union money orders. Do not ship outside of the US, perhaps allow Canada. If you ship outside the US, you will get scammed - it's a rash generalization, but just follow it for now, with as little experience as you have. If I was you, I would only accept paypal, and as quoted above, only ship to a confirmed address. In order to be protected by the seller protection policy (SPP) you need to ship to a confirmed address and get a signature on delivery. FedEx is cheaper than most other shippers and will meet the signature requirement.

[quote2394655a28="ltsmash2"]Also be upfront about cost of shipping. Ebay allows you to add in shipping and handling costs, but don't go over board. As an example, there are lots of people that will charge $20 for shipping on a 1lbs item that actually costs $3.85 to ship. If you do included a handling fee, state what it is and why it is included. I'm very honest about my shipping charges. I charge more than my actual shipping cost. It makes up for the fees I pay eBay and to paypal. It's safe to assume you're going to lose about 9% of your total sale price in fees, which is why I say that you should limit your initial listing fees. Every auction I list costs me $0.25 for the listing, and if I include a gallery picture an additional $0.35. It may not seem like much, but if you're giving eBay $1 before your item even sells, then paying them 5% of your final value and paying Paypal (owned by eBay) 3% of the money you make, it adds up quickly.

Good luck.

It depends on your product. If you find a niche product at a good price you could make a full time job out of it. I made enough to buy some things I wanted but couldn't justify purchasing on their own otherwise. Send me a PM if you have any questions or need help.

just use imageshack and include the images in your listing via HTML.

I used photobucket but it only gives me one line to upload an image that ends in .jpg.url==http://=http:///url Do you mean put it in my description as html or put in 2 images in the upload section with a comma or something?

Nice pics!

I would
- State in the bottom that you will only ship to confirmed addresses. That should put off most scammers that might try to take advantage of an infrequent seller.
- Go into ebay options and check the option to block negative rating bidders.
- For the PSP, you say you never used it, although you say you played it (should be 'never use it')... kinda confusing (a put off) so I'd change it. Confusion lowers prices.
- I wouldn't put my TEL or email to avoid spam/unwanted calls. There are a lot of freaks on ebay. Interested bidders can contact you through ebay.

Good luck! I might list a PSP this week too.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out hehehehe! Is there a way to edit my listing once the bidding starts? I can't seem to find a way.

hehehhehe

21-08-2005 21:41:00

If you've received bids on it you can only add to your description. You can still add the "I will only ship to confirmed addresses" part. You should see a way to do this one you try to revise your listing in My Ebay.

It's strange. Right now the high bid for the xbox is $91, the PS2 is at $112, and the PSP is only at $88 and there is only one day left for bidding. I hope people are just waiting to jump on the PSP at the last minute because I don't have a reserve and I'll be bummed if I have to sell it for like $90 with a game.

One time I sold a Game Boy Advance and it was only at like $36 until the last ten minutes where it then went to $61. Sometimes big jumps happen.

I think you only having +3 Feedback and having your username as CrackBaby will hurt you a little but hopefully all will go well!

OK, the sender of the payment has a confirmed address but he is unverified. What the hell does that mean?

hehehhehe

28-08-2005 12:46:07

Don't worry about that. I have good ebay rating but never verified either. It just means their banking account is not linked to Paypal. As long as they're confirmed you'll have seller protection.

Are you happy with your two sales?

I just listed an ipod and psp. Will list a mac mini soon too.

lakersin2025

29-08-2005 09:12:44

Hell yea I'm happy! I got $211.49 +$20 for shipping for my xbox, $132.50 plus $15 for shipping for my PS2, and $222.50 plus $20 for my PSP. I got more than I though I would for all of them. I'm not sure why someone would pay the same price for a PS2 as in the store.
