i am not sure if this is the right place or why i am asking but i figured since i am on here so much i could ask some of you to help me decide which college i should apply to. I currently have a 3.85 GPA at the community college and i am a finance major right now (i love money) and have been considering
New York University
Tulane
Duke
Carnegie Mellon
University of Michigan
Brigham Young

Please help me decide. I have my mind set on NYU but i need to know of some other colleges that have good business schools. Also, if any of you have a wallpaper of the NYC skyline (1440x900) i could use it for motivation ). thx for the help (if any of you respond to this).

yea i have never been there. lol. however, i have always been intrigued with the new york city lifestyle and have always wanted to be one of those businessmen walking down the street. i think i have a pretty good chance of getting into NYU and umich. my english professor checked superb on almost everything on the recommendation form. the only thing i might have trouble with is the essay. any websites that have successful admission essays so i can get an idea?

I go to University of illinois - urbana champaign so I'm gonna be biased, try applying here. Campus life is awesome and we have a pretty high ranked finance/accounting program in CBA.

But don't even thinking about going to BYU, that school is so tight with everything. You can't drink any soda on campus and you have to be clean shaven everyday, thats just two of the rules they have. As for umich, i think its kinda expensive for the academics they offer. I'm sure NYU is great and CMU also.

I agree with the person above, but if it was between UoI U.C. and NYU, I'd go NYU in a heartbeat. UoI is an incredibly good school, as is NYC, but with NYC you got the city. Definite plus.

hm... illinois. one of my co-workers graduated from northwestern and she only makes $14/hr here ( poor nia. actually one of the reasons i want to go to nyu is because i wont need a car. it costs me $45/tank right now. i usually go through 1 1/2 tank per week just going to school and work. i go to work to make money to pay for my gas to make money. this is bullshit...

Well I can tell you that I go to the University of Michigan and it is the greatest school in the nation.

1) Best public school in the nation academically
2) Voted Best Campus in the nation
3) Ann Arbor voted top 10 most liveable cities in US
4) Ranked Best Athletic program in the nation (now including michael phelps)
5) BIG HOUSE FOOTBALL - BIGGEST STADIUM IN THE NATION
6) Business School ranked #1 in country, law and medical programs rated top 5.
7) Big Ten
8) Largest Alumni Association in the world
9) Amazing rivalries with Ohio State, Notre Dame, and MSU
10) Best Fight Song (Hail to the Victors)

With that said, UofM is a no-brainer, but it is quite difficult to get in, especially if you don't live in Michigan. Go Blue, and look out for Michael Hart and Chad Henne, Rose Bowl 2006!

I hope your parents are loaded because it will cost them a shitload to send you to NYU.. I was going to apply there, but I decided it would just be too much money.

Since you like money, you mind as well go to NYU which is a few stops away from wall street and the major investment banks / financial services fims. You'll have a easier time finding an internship and a job when you graduate, even though it can be competitve (you'll be ok if you get out of NYU).

However NYC is really expensive as liquidskin says so you might look into living in Brookyn, Queens, or NJ. There are nice places to live there, and they are a bit cheaper. The NYU dorms are a rip off but it might be good for a year so you can meet people.

UMich is great too, but you won't get city life or the proximity to the biggest investment banks. You'll get campus life instead, which you don't really get at NYU.

Dont forget, a good undergrad business school is one thing. What really makes the difference is the graduate school you go to.

getting into UofM isnt that difficult if you are asian though...also go there if you like ugly girls....im not saying that all the girls there are unattractive, but as a hole...not so good...luckily MSU is an hour away....its a riot of a time there....MSU drinks and parties harder....UofM smokes better

BYU would be fun to corrupt a few morman girls....but they are very strict

I hope you are kidding, this is a decently easy school to get into and it is not the best academically for a public school. Your sports program and CBA is all you got really.

Heh heh heh, Big Ten rivalry heating up.

Although I'd like to see where he got the "Best public school in the nation academically" (close, but UCal-Berkeley is #1 according to last US News ranking) and "Business School ranked #1 in country" (#1 is Wharton according to same source), UMich is one of the best schools academically.

Let's try to give him objective advice, it's a hard enough choice as it is...

Time to get a few things straight for all you UofM haters

MBA #1 ranked http//www.collegejournal.com/reports/bschool05/glance/20040922-topnational.html

BBA #3 ranked

LawSchool #8 ranked http//www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/law/brief/lawrank_brief.php

MedSchool #9 ranked http//www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/med/brief/mdrrank_brief.php

Engineering #6 ranked http//www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/eng/brief/engrank_brief.php

Overall Public School #2 http//www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/natudoc/natudoc_pub_brief.php

Now, where is Illinois and MSU ranked?

hehehhehe

18-08-2005 11:57:03

WSJ's MBA ranking is one of the least credible BTW (come on, Harvard at #13?)... You're picking and choosing rankings - why not show the US News rank where it isn't #1? UMich does have a great MBA program though.

I've defended UMich, but he's asking about business school, not Med, Law, or Engineering (where UofI beats UMich anyway). And this isn't a my school is better than yours thread, geez, calm down people...

i'd never go to uc-berk, did you ever see their campus and girls that go there? and yeah..and ann arbor is a whore, i wouldnt pay 10 grand more to go there.

nobody is really saying anything about duke, its a really nice school overall. If you want straight academics, i would go to cmu from your list.

for now, just apply first and decide when the time comes

I agree, the UofM girls aren't too good looking, but you gotta trade brains for beauty. MSU girls on the otherhand are all fake blonde, skanky, and loose.

that is what i am planning on doing. the room and board is like 11k (DAMN!) but i have 2 rich grandmothers and my parents do okay i guess. i do know not to live in the bronx or harlem or w/e. i think i will live in the dorm for the first year to meet people and stuff then get an apt elsewhere with a couple of roommates. i am still going to apply to umich and cmu, as well as a couple of schools here in tx (tcu and smu), but my main priority is nyu. i did not know byu was that strict about stuff. good to know. /me crosses it off his list.

I visited NYU and i loved the city life but the campus is really hard to navigate and it is spread over a lot of blocks. If you're a city person then you'll really enjoy it but if you dont mind the city you might want to reconsider.
