i donated last night also.....but iwas thinking about offering greens to people, in return for them donating to the red cros or whoever it goes to, instead of me taking the money and keeping.

Ive always been hesitant about donating to "relief funds", because in all honesty you dont really know where that money is going.

For once, aj is right. It is a very good idea to encourage donating but to make a fund where the person in charge has access to all the money... idk... Someone post the link to redcross donations.. i think that would be the best idea.

I would love to donate money but i dont know how much is really going to them and how much there taking out for them self. I would rather give can foods b/c then i know that it will get there they cant take a % out of can foods. Also after you donate to them donate here )

I just think of these organizations like "The Jimmy Fund" etc. that get donations alot, but never do anything. Has the Jimmy Fund found a cure for cancer? No.

Yup, if you have the money to donate, use the red cross. I for one can't afford it since I had to pay rent today but if they start bringing people to Dallas I'll definately be bringing food over.

For those that are closer to the area, housing for victims is also needed. Go to this forum set up for the disaster here[=http//mystfire.net/katforum/index.php?sid=a0713658f22ea5b479b5a066535149dd]here to get more information and/or put up a listing.

A local radio station which is very popular around here is putting on a fundraiser for all the kids and their families who need a place to go to school. Kinda of a neat idea. You donate and your given beads. The more you donate, the more beads you get and the more you can show your support.

97.9 is the station. Cool idea if you ask me.

wtf, i click that donate link on the red cross webpage and i get
HTTP 404 - File not found

That'll really help them get funds.

I dont think most people need money at this time...they need to get out of the situation first.

I just heard on the news today how bush is planning on sending all of this money...the people dont need money, they need to get out first.

However, I'm not saying that money donations are going to hurt.

I pledge $10.
Someone responsible should seriously be voted to take over a small fund we as a community can send to the victims via RedCross or whatever we decide.

I vote GodRockDJ or someone equally trustable.

What do you think is used to buy the supplies and necessities needed to keep people alive and get them out?
I'll give you a hint it doesnt grow on trees.

But seriously, all jokes aside, if you have a few bucks sitting in paypal, consider sending them in...

Sonofshoe

01-09-2005 16:19:13

I just got done watching the evening news, and they said themselves that they can't even get to some places to give them the things they need. So yes, they do need to get out first.

All jokes aside.

I'm not following you...Are you saying money is no good? Money that buys gas for the boats and choppers and buses and puts food in the relief workers stomachs?

I cant even believe you are trying to argue this.

If you guys wanted a central location to donate, then we donate a lump sum to the Red Cross. I could do it with my paypal account. Of course it would be minus the transaction charges, so I don't know if it is worth it to you guys. Guess it would depend on the amount of people willing to donate, I don't know if we could get recognition for a certain amount donated or what, just throwing out that I could help. Also, depending on the paypal fees, I could pay the full amount, making the fees "my donation" or what ever. If there are enough interested, let me know, I would be more than happy to help.

I don't think Red Cross is a good choice. I've been reading articles about how when 9/11 happened millions of dollars never made it to victims families. Maybe a smaller organization? I'm not sure how you could totally make sure that your money made it there way though.

Also, if your in an area that has a shelter, bringing clothes and things and volunteering there would be really helpfull

i think we should collect all the money and present it as a gift from FIG maybe a little publicity 2...

It is cool that people are giving money and all but i would think alot more people would will money to this site, with it helping you get all that free stuff and all 10$ is nothing and helps the admin keep this site up. Not saying its bad to give money to help out i am just saying with people getting 200+paypal they cant take out 10$ to pay the admin alittle to help this site out. thats all )

gregcool

01-09-2005 17:31:50

I would do what ever you guys wanted with the money, just stating that I could use my account. It would go str8 to my bank account, then to where ever you guys wanted it. Then again, I don't know if I am considered a "trusted user" (don't know the qualifications) )

i know this is kind of stereotypical, but 97.9 the beat here in dallas (the rap station) is a rap station. ill probably donate to the red cross this weekend sometime if i am near a grocery store or something because i never go to wal-mart. i dont have the funds to donate very much (damn gas) but i will donate to the limit of my comfort zone.

Just got home. Other websites (Fark, etc) have set up donation pools within their sites to help with the disaster. If there is a consensus here and the Admin approves it all, I would be glad to help in whatever way we figure out....

Also, if the Red Cross is not decided as the place to donate, there are other major groups that easily accept donations - [bef9c797fef]Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity...[/bef9c797fef] Or a smaller, more local group perhaps? I'm open to suggestions.

With utmost respect for Admin and FIG....

Who gives a flying fuck about giving FIG exposure or getting group recognition for the donation? For once maybe we should think of more important things then a freebie forum....

I wholeheartedly agree.

Another note - there is a website[=http//www.writerscafe.net/donations]website that was set up to collect private donations for the Tsunami disaster and at that time they raised over $9000. They are again up and running for this disaster. Their donations go straight to the Americares Domestic Relief Fund[=http//www.americares.org/domesticrelief/]Americares Domestic Relief Fund. This site accepts [b247521c91f]Paypal[/b247521c91f], so maybe this would be a better option?
