Digi Camera Opinion?

I finished thefreeproject awhile back and my order is finally up for $250 paypal. Now I decided I really want the Sony Cyber-Shot Digital Camera with 5.1MP they have which I have enough referrals for already. The thing is I can get the paypal in the next few days or I can re-order and get the digital camera in no less than a month, The cheapest I can find this camera new is around $300 so it would be worth it. So now I am trying to make the decision.
I know a few of you are huge into digicams/photography so if you have an opinion for me. Either tell me a better or pretty good camera I can get for around $250+ or should I just wait and get this Sony?
Thanks - Tony

I'm no camera expert, but most would say if you want quality pictures don't buy a Sony camera.
I'd suggest a Canon or a Nikon.

i have the sony 5.0 easyshare from gratis's freedigitalcameras. I love it, I have the 1gig memory card that's on sale at circuit city for 59.00 and it holds about 650 pictures. But anyway, I think the quality is great. No complaints here

Yup, sony suck. Get yourself a Canon A95. I love the quality of the pictures it takes. You can get them for about $250 i think, maybe even cheaper on ebay. Search around and you will find it is one of the highest rated 5mp cameras. Stroid has one too, ask him.

I would suggest you go to www.edealsinfo.com or www.dealstobuy.com. They have super-hot deals all the time. If you can wait till a national holiday, you can get cameras worth $500 for $300 or so. Reg camera, I have a canon A510. I would say thats the best entry-level camera ever-made. Amazing quality and superb shutter-speed. Eventhough its only got 3.2 MP and 4X optical zoom, its good enough for normal photography and what more, its only $150. If you wanna shoot for discovery or national geographic channel, you might want to look at a different level ) W/e, go for a Canon!

I had a sony digi cam back when they were 1 mp and it was pretty good... Every sony since then has sucked.
I'd agree with everyone here. Either Nikon or Canon.

You don't like the A95?
Then maybe the SD400.

you wouldnt buy a car made by AOL would you? at least i hope not.
sony arent good at making cameras, so you wanna go with a camera manufacturer.....the only 2 worth noting that make consumer friendly cameras are Canon and Nikon. i personally like Canon, but it depends on your taste, budget, preferances etc.
this is a good place to look

i put in 2 of your requirements (5MP and under $300....couldnt search for $250) and this(above) is what came up......if you have a choice between a couple of cameras, you can do a side-by-side comparison here

Though Sony now impliments Carl Zeiss lenes. Zeiss is probably better then Nikon/Canon lens. Though i must admit, Canon and Nikon are nice.
I'm selling my DSC-M1 that I'm getting from FreeDigitalCameras for the Canon SD450. It's the same thing as the canon SD400 except that it has a 2.5 inch LCD
