PS3 looks amazing...

I watched some of the presentation that Sony gave at E3 about the PS3. It's amazing what it can render in real time. While the new xbox just looks like it's comparable to what you'd get on PC with the latest video card, the PS3 stuff looks incredible.
Don't take my word for it, you can find it here if you haven't seen it
http//www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/16/news_6124681.html
Click on "stream for free" under the small "Sony E3 2005 Press" box. It's two hours long so you have to skip around to get to the good stuff. Make sure to watch the Unreal and Fight Night demos. The ducks in the tub demo with eye toy is interesting too. Of course, graphics are nice but gameplay is more important... I know that Sony is known to 'over-demonstrate' these kinds of things (but then again, who doesn't try?) and xbox developers may come out with great stuff too. Just haven't seen any of it yet...

X360 is cheaper, coming here 6mon-1 year SOONER then ps3, and it is more powerful. The GPU pwns that of the ps3. The only reason PS3 has so many cores is because the GPU cant handle it all so they pass it off. You dont need that much CPU power. CPU power means very little for vid games nowadays, and GPU much much more for video games.
The important thing though is which one gets modded first, im hoping the x360 does and im pretty sure it will ). Wont buy it till I can mod it. No matter if i have to solder 64 wires.

basicly every ps3 video out there is totally scripted. PS3 has nothing to show right now. That killzone video was such a joke, its 100% scripted and ppl think its amazing just cuz its rendered.

I'm a n00b when it comes to console modding...what are some of the benefits? Are you just unlocking regions and such? Adding emulators? Or something even cooler that my mind hasn't yet fathomed?

True, that killzone video and most of those renderings were scripted (except for the ducks;)). However, I haven't seen anything as impressive on the xbox 360, scripted or not (maybe you guys can point me to some). Like I said, Sony is known to over demonstrate.
I've read conflicting reports as to the GPU comparison. Some say PS3 is better, some say xbox is better. So many fan boys out there that it's hard to trust anyone. I just go by what I see. One could have really powerful hardware, but without the tools and the developers, it can be wasted anyway. Just by judging the situation, I'd say the Nvidia RSX should be stronger. Nvidia's 7800 leads the video card pack right now, and they have had much more time to develop their chip vs. ATI, given the release dates.
So you guys think xbox 360 > PS3 then?

basically it turns your xbox into a media center...stream movies and music over your network (from your pc to xbox), run emulators, backup games from hard drive(load times almost non existant)

In general, it means you can play backups and homebrew apps. I have an xbox that I soft modded, it plays backups, homebrews (I have 5 DVDs of NES/ATARI/SNES/GENESIS/N64 ROMs that I can play), etc... It can also act as a media center, although I'm not too amazed by its performance.
Modding also refers to modifying a console's appearance. The fact that you can change the faceplate on the new xbox is a huge plus to some roll .

it will be hacked. a mit grad was the first to do the xbox. the electronic geeks, not game geeks, are the ones that do it. the ones that know all about circuitry and all that crazy stuff. since the demand is up right now to get it done, it will get done. the only thing that will make people weary of doing it is the whole xbox live thing and the fact that the xbox 360 does not have screws on its casing.
btw, i will get a different case when i get it modded. either dark gray or see through green.

PS3 will OWN xbox360. the gfx are shit compared to ps3, it lags like a bitch, just watch pretty much any preview (especially quake4). i am going to be selling my free xbox 360 when the shortage hits the market, get $500 for it, and then buy the ps3 when it comes out.

Both of the consoles have great design, but what's with that PS3 controller? Looks a little demented. I can't comment on performance. but 360 has a serious edge being released a year before PS3 in marketing terms. I've played on a XBox like twice so.......yeah..........

I love my hacked consoles. PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast, and soon my PSP will all be modded...
Playing Final Fantasy on a PS2 with 2-3 second loading time is great! I also play Stepmania on my Xbox with all of the songs from the arcade DDR machines. I can't wait until I get a free Xbox360 and get to sink my teeth into that too!

I think sony is going to change the controller before it releases. They have plenty of time to do that from E3 to whenever they release it. They've had so much negative feedback, i don't know how they can't change it. I wouldn't mind a change in the console look either.

Yeah but that controller shape gives women something to do with the vibration feedback and all...

I found some xbox 360 videos in HD here
http//www.xbox.com/en-us/e32005/videos.htm[]http//www.xbox.com/en-us/e32005/videos.htm
I wasn't very impressed with xbox 360 games before, and these videos certainly don't help.
The guys that say the xbox 360's gpu owns the ps3 processor, can you elaborate? The only site that says that is a site from a guy that works from MS. Most other sites say the contrary. While I've read about the new things the RSX (PS3 GPU) does, I haven't seen anything about ATI's chip, it just seems like what you'd get on a PC graphics card. I'd love to see some good things going for the 360, Mountain Dew is supposed to send me one after all.

actually both systems are comparable with gpu power. It just doesnt seem that way when the specs are listed. Benchmarks prove otherwise.
Also.....i forget wich team, but one of the modding teams got their hands on a dev kit 360 xbox. Soooooo ...look for a 360xbox modchip fairly soon after the release.

i put a 200gig hd and the excuter 3 chip in my xbox and heres what ive been able to do.....
-connect via FTP to my pc [/br]
-download games via internet and burn to dvd, or transfer straight to the HD of xbox [/br]
-rip xbox games directly from xbox dvd to xbox hd [/br]
-install emulators and about 4000 roms (meaning i can play nintendo, super nintendo, sega, atari, n64,and MAME (arcade games)...all thru my xbox) [/br]
-play with and view small settings such as the boot screen colors (changed to blue and gold for WVU), see xbox temp., make the front led blink orange green and red, and adjust rear fan speed [/br]
-use xbox media center to play dvds with xbox without the need for the dvd adapter or dvd remote
and MUCH MORE
If you already own an xbox you should look to pay around 35-60$ for a decent mod chip, ~20$ for instalation if you cannot solder simple things yourself , and some $ depending on size of HD.
i dropped about 150$ total for my chip and HD.
ALSO....ive got a full stock 1.0 unmodded broken xbox for sale. Motherboard fried when dvd got stuck in the drive and overheated. I think it can be fixed by replacing the motherboard only. motherboard and cd drive at most.
ill sell the xbox AS IS for 15$ plus shipping cost. (or a green on freedesktoppc or nanos)
(1.0 mb's sell for 30-60$ on ebay, and the thompson cd drives for $15-20)
all the parts snap in easily...and would be a simple rebuild for anyone. plus theres tons of sites to find parts and diagrams.
