So my car stereo was stolen...

Damnit don't you hate crackhead thieves? So I had a real nice setup..an Alpine HU with an ipod interface so I could listen to my ipod directly and switch between playlists when i was in my car. I also had a 1000 W Pyramid amp and 2 12" 500W Pioneers. This is my first year in college btw. Anyway, I walk out to my car this afternoon...and I notice my console is hanging out. Immediatly I think "oh shit" and I could guess what happened. I have a 2000 Black Honda Civic with manual locks, and I've been told those are really easy to break into. So the fuckers took everything..the head unit, ipod interface, then they popped the trunk and got the subs (in a niice box) and my amp. I'm pretty sure my insurance will cover this (I hope so), but can you guys think of any advice for me so this doesn't happen again? Would an alarm system really be that effective?

Alarm systems are overrated...and really just imply you have something worth stealing. The best advice I can give you is to lay low with it Turn your shit down before you get within a mile or so of where you're parking, and if you're really worried circle the block before you park. Try to park in well-lit areas, too.
If you want to go a bit further, there are alot of installation options to keep your subs/amp safe...fiberglass custom installation, bolt the box to the chassis (this can be done from INSIDE the box for added security), etc. I've got my amp mounted to the back of my box (3 10" Kicker Comps in a single, sealed box)...which I'd like to think is a bit too heavy for your average crackhead to run off with (unless of course, he's got Red Balls). You should always take your face plate out of the car, too.
That said...I have an alarm system, and don't follow any of my own advice. Though, I'm pretty well known here and at home...I really don't worry about it. Not to mention I live downstairs from a cop when I'm not on campus, and I park literally right in front of my apartment. I've never had my car broken into and I hope I never have to kill someone for trying.

Correct. I'm so glad I took it out last night, or else I'm sure it would be gone too. Thanks for the advice FON, I think if I do decide to build another system, I'll definatly bolt everything down and make the next one who trys to steal it work for it. I think this guy(s) must have had Red Balls..
@Slease nope, not cool at all.. cry

my advice is this, if you have a detachable face plate take that off seeng a nice faceplate in a car is a good sign they have subs and other stuff in there,
alarms are useslles people always dont pay attention to them, whenver i here one im like when is this stupid thing going to stop. some car alarms go off if u get to close to the car. not even touching it.
get a box that is heavy noone is going to take itif they cant lift it. a big bulky box takes u more space but will prevent them from getting stolen. a small little box is easy to carry. bolting to chais is a good idea. if someone tries to jack the box and it doesnt move they aren going to get on ground under ur car and undo bolt they will just move on easier steal.

I got my deck and all my CD's stolen about 2 years ago. Thank God, i had every thing on my hard drive as mp3's. Haven't bought a CD since.
I had a Sony phontom face deck in my El Camino, so if you looked just a little bit, you could tell the deck was aftermarket. They didn't take my 6X9's that were in boxes, just laying behind the seat or my app though.

i am looking to sell my system. Digital Audio 2000w mono chan amp and a Resonant Engineering XXX 12". i have all 2000 watts going to the sub. the RE xxx rms wattage is 1600 and the max is 2500. i outperformed my friends jl audio w7 12" by far. i had to buy a Optima Yellow Top battery to support all of the stuff but its all good now. the sub itself weighs a little over 60 pounds (its a beast). if you are interested let me know.

next time done use a sleeve in the head unit and just drill it in the dash. Its a pain when u want to take it out but it wont be stolen. As for alarms a 2 way pager would be nice, it pages you when anything is tampered with on your car and tells you about it. They also have silent alarms so the theif does not know the alarm went off and you can catch them in the act. I think a good and cheap one was http//www.asianwolf.com/caralarms.htm . Not too pricey for the unit, but install will probably cost over 200$. Also if your looking to replace ur stuff, I have a 1200 watt boss amp (no name brand but better then pyramid) that I could let go for very cheap. Also have to RF subs but they arent very powerful.

Well I appreciate that and I wish you lived around me. I don't like going to the mall and having to hear "YO YO BITCH GONNA #li#li&@ YOUR li@(#ING MAMA AND #@(# HER ()li#@ WHILE I ()@li@ YOUR )(@li##@ING POODLE" while I'm going to get whatever it is I don't need to be buying. I'm sure parents love it when they are with their kids too.
I had my car broken into once. They stole my radar detector and I only had a tape deck at the time, it had an old Robin Williams stand up tape in it. They pulled it out and looked at it, but left it. I know if it would have been Chris Rock they would have stolen it.

Haha. My case was kind of similar..I had some Bill Hicks and a bunch of rock/punk cds..which they didn't touch.
