at the end of august i ordered an ibm thinkpad r50 with their special, which came with free 512 ram for 599. scheduled to deliver in october =(.then i found out that pcs.freepay had laptop. i should be done with the site by the end of the week, here dilema.
the ibm comes with 1 yr warrenty, since bought on credit card it 2 yr warrenty. but the ibm has a cdrom drive that is not removable in any way. the gateway now has a dvd crw thats removable, but has no s video out , which is not upgradable in future.
sooo
should i get ibm with a non upgradable cdrom drive
or a gateway with a non existant s video out, which cant be added on.
so in ur opionion which should i pick(brands considered). then which which should i get brand names and quality aside.
like which is worse having no cdre/dvd drive ever, or no svideo out ever.?

I would get the gateway. What good is having s-video if you don't have a dvd-rom. And a usb s-video out is probably cheaper than an external dvd-drive.

ibm though give a good value while lets face it gateway does not
plus you are more likely gonna have problems w/ the gateway (even if you have problems w/ ibm they have better customer support)
just depends on if you really need a dvd player in ur laptop and will you ever use it
also, just thought i'd add, its not IBM anymore its Lenovo (just used IBM when responding so you knew what i was talking about)

macs are highly reliable operating systems, and I doubt you've ever extensively used a mac anyway.
also.. Macs are more reliable than windows (depending on what you do with them) and are perfect for graphic designers like myself.

macs are nice, but not what this topic is about.
the thingis gateway only has 90 day warrenty. even if its free, laptops are not disposable to me, i cant just get new 1.
