Because you are stupid? She was the one that did not give up her seat for a white man in the front of the bus. Civil Rights Activist.

Well then why even say that? You obviously have something to say about it so just say it.
Personally I think that what she did was amazing, but I wouldn't say she was a Civil Rights leader or anything like that, more of an icon and a hope for the world.
Either way it's sad cry

She was an icon and gave a lot of people hope, but what she did doesn't seem like a big deal.

Have you heard of the Civil Rights movement? Segregation?
She basically sparked a revolution that allowed African-Americans to be treated somewhat as equally as white people in this country.
That's quite a big deal if you ask me shrug

your statement is somwhat contradictory. if she was an icon and gave a lot of people hope I guess what she did was a big deal then.

I believe what she did was amazing and took courage. But I have a strange feeling others did the same (maybe not on a bus but you know) just it wasn't made public or wasn't known like her situation was. But nevertheless she still was a great woman.

Do you even know what you are talking about?

Yes, I know what i'm fucking talking about. What her actions led to was a big deal and did help spark the civil rights movement, but all she was sit on a bus. I know that it took courage, but as halfbreed said, i'm sure many other people did the same thing. I guess what i'm saying is Why do people act like she was the first person in the history of the US to stand up to black civil rights.

People make a big deal out of it because of what came of it. If nothing happened about it then probably noone would know who she was.
It's the fact that her actions sparked a very big, serious and positive change in this country, that's why.

it doesn't matter, she stood up and did something about the oppresion, and made it public and loud, and sparked the fire that brought (almost) equality to the US today.
and she will always be remembered for it

From the BBC
[quote18df4d8bed]Mrs Parks was not the first black Montgomery bus rider to be detained for refusing to give up a seat, but she was the first to challenge the law.[/quote18df4d8bed]

Sometimes, it takes one person to spark a massive movement which results in major change in society. In this case, it was Rosa Parks.
She did a lot for the disadvantaged people of this country. R.I.P.
I'm a little jolted to hear of this.. I hope she rests in peace..
