I went to Best Buy today to redeem some Best Buy Bucks, and ran into a slight problem. Strichter has probaly seen this before, because a lot of Best Buy stores are now doing this.

I went into BB and went to purchase some iTunes Music Gift Cards, and when I walked into the line and tried to pay with 220$ worth of Best Buy Bucks the checker said there was a 20$ limit, and knowing the checker could not do anything I asked for a manager. I was contacted by a manager and she told me that she could not honor any best buy bucks for purchases over 20$, and I told her that it was against corporate policy to issue a store statement. She proceeded to tell me that she could, which is wrong.

So I asked her if I could call Best Buys Corporate offices, and she then dialed and let me speak to them. This is where I got into contact with a person that said I could indeed use up to 300$ of BBBucks but not on iTunes because it was a Apple product. I tottally forgot iTunes was Apple, even though it obviously was. I said ok I will go get Napster, and left to get some. I think at this point if I had Napster to begin with I would have gotten away with buying it. But I totally forgot, like I previously said.

When I came back I talked to the Store Manager, who informed me this was his store and if I did not like the store policy I could leave or be escorted out by police. I asked him if I could call back the corporate offices and he said no. I bought some CD-rs that I needed that where under 20$ and left.

When I got out side I called best buy on my own cell phone, and made my intentions clear that I did not want to file a complaint, but just redeem my best buy bucks. She said she was sorry for the trouble, and would send a 25$ gift card to my house. She took down my home address and name, and filled the complaint. She also said that if she could talk to the manager she could clarify it.

So I went back into Best Buy and told the manager that Corporate offices was on the phone and would like to talk to you. He said he would not talk to the person on the phone, and the police officer that was near him got involved. He then told me to leave, or be arrested. He also said it was "cold in jail this time of year", even though a heat wave just hit and it was actually on the hot side out side ;).

The person on the phone told me she was sorry, and I got the complaint number and hung up.

I went to a friends house afterwards too cool down, I was pretty shook up. I am a pretty assertive person, but like many people I get pretty shook up when handling things like this.

After I was cooled down I went over to my home, in which I still live with my parents. I told my mom and dad what happened in entirely. My dad was pissed and called the store, and got in contact with the manager. A lot of BS happened over the phone that the manager never told me about. Like him thinking I was a fradulent buyer, and that the 20$ a visit is only for some people. Even though the cashier had a direct order for a blanket 20$ for EVERYONE. And that I was banned from the store now by the police department. This was never gaven to me at the time. After the phone call was over it was negotiated that I would visit the store tommarow and purchase what I wanted to today without the 20$ limit.

After this I went over to one of my friends house to play Risk, and somebody hit my parked car and now the dent is making it so my driver door can not be opened. Which means I have to use the passanger door, and that blows so much. Espically when there was not one dent or scratch on the car. Which is a 92 Chevy S10.

I hope you guys do not think I am a total asshole and that I am in the wrong. The rules really did state that they are in the wrong, and I have went over them more then once.

I would tell you to go on a shooting spree but I think that would only make things worse. That and the fact that it's cold in jail this time of year. Drinking might help, though.

damn that is crazy. i would might have done the same but i believe in karma and that manager would get whats coming to him soon enough. i might have just gone to another best buy and spoke of the problems as soon as i got to the register. if i were you i would file a complaint with the police department for being kicked out for no logical reason. you werent causing disruption or anything of the nature. you were just saying that the manager was an unruly asshole tha wasnt following the company he works for's policy.

I would have caused a bit more of an uproar than you did....basically I can see myself doing two things

a) Getting arrested and dominated Best Buy in a legal battle, forcing them to settle

b) Go get the official contest rules and bring them back to the store with the Best Buy Bucks redemption rules highlighted and be a huge dick to the manager...from there it would be "a" all over again.

You should have stayed there until they let you buy it. It isn't his store, he could get fired for saying that, and should have.

you could of made this story alot more interesting, you know, add fiction events to it. like the police man tried to arrest you, you pulled out your gat and push the whole store way back, then SWAT team came and getyou, but you was strapped with some heavy bombs on you, then they tried to negotiate a deal with you like giving you a million dollar house and ferrari enzo. but you refused and continued to fight for human rights, then right when they capture you, they tried to lynch you right away, but you escape from the tree and returned to america, where Bush hears this story and decides to bomb the shit out of all Best Buys in the world.

I've had problems with Best Buy in the past as well.. Last year I bought a GeForce 6800 from them that turned out to be defective, so I went back to exchange it about 6 months ago. I brought my receipt with me, but the clerk at their little returns department told me that they never sold GeForce 6800's, so they wouldn't refund my money. I would have made a huge fuss if a friend of mine didn't want to buy it off me the next day. roll

They do not sell Napster cards online, and that is what I want. Because I can sell that back for the exact amount I bought it from, or a little lower. Everything else is super overpriced pieces of shit.

Yeah at first my store they started doing this, but then quickly stopped.

The return policy is 30 days, so even if she knew they sold it you would be out of luck.

You misread it, srichter. He meant that he tried to return it 6 months ago, not 6 months after he bougth it. But I thought that at first too

He bought it a year ago, he went to exchange it 6 months ago. 6 months ago = May, 30 days before = April, that isn't last year.

Best Buy SUCKS. More people need to realize that. I never buy from there unless its something I need immediately and noone else has for a similar price. That hasnt happened in a while thank god. I would love to try to open a store that could compete with them, but its pretty damn hard to compete with such a big corporation (

Ive just heard and experienced way too much shit with them. They have been pretty good at treating their customers, and from what I have heard, employees, shitty, which is reason enough for me to not give them any of my business. Also I am neither a teen nor a liberal.

I've heard bad stuff about Best Buy too. I guess the one in my area is very nice. I've picked up 3 things that I ordered online in store, and the CSRs are always very nice and polite to me. D

The only grief I have with them is their prices are too high. Espically when Fry's electronics is right down the road. This can be opposed with too low of prices places high demand on suppliers, and low wages for employee's.

This one stores management refusing corporate policy also pisses me off. They are Best Buy, and are part of Best Buy inc.
