((( Settlers of Catan *A Popular Game?* )))

I just picked up this board game called [i41742802c5]The Settlers of Catan[/i41742802c5] just a few weeks ago since i was looking for a new strategy game to get addicted to. I realize that this game is everywhere...there are groups all over my college campus playing this game. I go to Muggswigz for some yerba mate and i see some guy carrying the game around in there too.

Is this game popular anywhere else? It's pretty freakin addicting and lots of fun. I guess it was #1 in Germany '95, and #1 in U.S. '96.

I play it. My typical stratgy is going for those devolpement cards, heh i have good luck. I won once with like 4 citys and a very short road connecting them

I typically go for longest road, but it can get stolen pretty easily. Maybe cards would be a good strategy. Sometimes you gotta just go with what you get.

Well its really dependant on which supplys in demand, though i'm typically stuck with the cards that i can only get cards with. Considering i dont want to save up for a city i just get the card. Not bad though, since i get to move the robber and steal a card P

Does any body else play this? I thought it was more popular than this.

Yeah it takes some strategy to play, and the board is different every time you play because you put it together randomly. Always makes it a challenge. And you can play it over and over and not get sick of it. 3-4 players and you can get an expansion that makes the board bigger allowing 5-6 players.

I've played that game with some friends quite a few times over the last year or two. It's pretty fun. However, I've never won! Not once!! My strategery is just terrible, evidentially.

I think that game is too social for me to enjoy.

Socializing is also why I never got into Magic the Gathering...that and I once dated a guy who played and I learned quickly that he was the only one who showered every day. ( Not fun to walk out of a room filled with Magic players only to walk back in and be ASSAULTED by body stank.[/sizebd5218f68d]

that game looks nerderific. i am sure there is a convention somewhere. i remember pokemon in like the 4th grade. special card was always the 3rd from the back lol.

I don't see the comparison. This is a well-developed strategy game, not some goofy kids fad. Oh well, I think it's fun to challenge your mind every so often.
