OK. (all times are approximate)

So I come home from college, and head up to my room to write a paper that's due for my online history class..
[b8b77fbfb02]240PM[/b8b77fbfb02]
Internet is fine, everything is great! All of the sudden the internet turns off and I'm left in the dark. Somewhat pissed at this, I walk down stairs to see who turned off the modem/router. I find my sister did this, so I turned it back on and headed back upstairs to finish my paper.
[b8b77fbfb02]250PM[/b8b77fbfb02]
Internet isn't working. I wonder why? Maybe someone turned the modem off again? I go downstairs once more and find out that the internet is now officially not working at all.
[b8b77fbfb02]252PM[/b8b77fbfb02]
I HATE network problems, but I try everything I can to try to resolve this. I try reparing the connection. Shutting down all systems and refreshing the modem and routers. Checking connections. None of this works.
[b8b77fbfb02]400PM[/b8b77fbfb02]
I run my computer and try to access my router. I couldn't access it. Hmm, that's strange, I can usually access the router when the internet goes down.
[b8b77fbfb02]830PM[/b8b77fbfb02]
I run 'cmd' and try to ping my router. Wow! No response? What is this? I tried to retrieve my IP address. No IP address. What is wrong?
[b8b77fbfb02]1015PM[/b8b77fbfb02]
I decide to try ONCE more. This time I take a look at my router and reset it. I finally notice that the only light that the router is showing is the POWER light. I proceed to check the back of the router, and find that the cable the goes from the router to the network hub is.... DISCONNECTED!
That's right. All this time, it was just a disconnected cable. So I connected the cable to the 'UPLINK' port and 'VOILA!' my internet is back.
Now how stupid can I be? What I can't figure out is how that cable got past my first cable connection check. I think it was because I just kinda ran my fingers over the cables, pushing them in. I also think that the network hub/router cable got plugged into a different port other than the 'UPLINK'.
Anyway. That was my adventure of today. Because of this little mishap, I got little done.
I had alot to do
- Finalize a trade
- Ship out a package
- Go to a class
- Do other stuff too probably.

Hey don't sweat it. I have a final English paper (rough draft though) for college due tomorrow and I have completely put it off until now. I had nothing stopping me from doing it besides the Colts game and web sites but I still didn't. Now we both got little done. D

Sounds like me last night....forcing myself to write the 7-10 page paper I'd been putting off for about 3 months. Anyway...I handed in a 6.25 page paper today <3
Somehow I don't think I'll be making Dean's List this semester (
Anyway, Chex...when I was younger I used to unplug the uplink on my brother...He'd kick me off the computer to hit off a few knuckle shots....worked like a charm lol

Not dial-up...RoadRunner (Cable)...but in addition to the modem upstairs, there was a router in the basement.

My Cisco instructor always said 90% of networking problems is cable related.
And my motto is 99% of all problems can be fixed with a restart, and the other 1% can be fixed with a reformat.

When I was a student, I used to work tech support for the residence hall computer network. The first question I ALWAYS asked was, "Is the network cable plugged in?" I cannot tell you the amount of people who would say, "What's a network cable?"
At least you're one step up from them.
A funny caveat to that. I loved getting calls from the girls dorm (as a female, I pride myself on being a geek, and being smarter than the dumbass girls that called the help desk) and they would say, "Well, my friend is a Computer Science major and he can't fix it." twisted
I would go to the room, check the ip address (before we had DHCP), fix it, reboot, and VOILA! Magically working ResNet. Or, I would look behind the computer, tell them to remove the phone cable from the network jack and their network card, and go down to the main office of their hall and buy a network cable. All the while the "computer science friend who couldn't figure it out" is sitting there, dumbstruck, and totally in love with me and my geekness. ;)

LOL! I've accidentally pressed the "standby" button on my modem and that drove me nuts for at least 2 hours. I've never called the cable company because I probably have a better understanding of things than they do.

A lot of people do not relise that Computer Science majors are majors in PROGRAMMING COMPUTERS not working on them. In my Comp Sci class noone knew shit about computer exluding 3 people, and my teacher was not in thoose 3. She had a virus on her computer for 6months before she noticed it, and if you ever hit ctrl+alt+delete and went to processes a retard could have seen it.
I have never seen a computer nerd that was a girl, besides on the internet ofcourse. Im starting to think they do not exist in real life \.
