I am currently using PSPad. Its the best free one I have found. I probably like PHPEdit the best, but it has a stupid 30 day trial that you have to pay $88 after that. evil I have used Zend before but it is a wicked memory hog.
What do you all use?

I used to use Notepad ) when I started, then found PHPEdit. Didn't like the 30-day trial or slowness of the GUI. Now I use PSPad, it kicks ass!

I think it's a bit silly to use an IDE for PHP work...
that said, I use jEdit for text editing. its nice and quick, has a powerful search/replace featureset (i.e. search/replace in a whole directory at once, regex, etc) and supports a ton of extra stuff with plugins. i use the ftp plugin to edit files as they sit on the server. very smooth. i also like how it guesses what you're coding based on the file extension (i.e. php for .php,url==http://=http:///url html/template stuff for .tpl,url==http://=http:///url etc) and does syntax highlighting appropriately. really, the whole interface is intuitive. i feel like i work about 50-100% more efficiently in it as compared to notepad or pico.

I don't think an IDE exists for PHP since its kind of an oxymoron. IDEs are for languages that need to be compiled and run, etc.

PHPEdit has the same features even tho it has php in the name it handles C++, CSS, HTML, etc. syntax highlighting.
