Well I am in the market for a laptop. I want to spend like $999 and then I plan on getting a thinkpad or powerbook in the summer of 2007. Any suggestions guys? I was looking at the ibooks, but they can't compare to powerbooks. Any help would be appreicated. D

If i was you...

I would offer 30 - 35 bucks a ref for laptops.freepay,,,

then it will cost you like 600 or so.. and you get a nice laptop... (maybe you could exchange it and use that extra 400 for an even better one )

Get more cash from custom order sites and buy a powerbook.

See my Brag Bag Thread
I got my ibook for free by doing 6 offers myself insted of getting 20 refs with freepay

Yeah I would do the ibook for 6 offers yourself (like Junior) instead of freepay's laptop site. It's cheaper and easier than finding referrals.

not to mention faster. My start to finsih time was under 3 weeks IIRC
and thats only because i hesistated to do some of the offer cause i wasent 100% sure the site was legit at first. Have you gone through a freepay approval lately? Its absolutely ridiculous.....

they make opera for mac so I'd go with that since its more of a design based broweser raher than being a pain in the ass.

Apple Processors are like Sun Processors. Their refresh rates are twice as fast as i386 processors. They're faster, more reliable. People just don't buy Apples because it's not compatible with as much stuff as i386 based software.

Apple is actually a version of FreeBSD (due to legal reasons), configured, and with a gui on it. If you go into terminal it'll be exactly like FreeBSD.

I am thinking of using free site money to get a nice powerbook or something. How much did you pay for your powerbook blink? See the thing is I don't want to get anything till they go intel ) There are some nice prices on thinkpads here http//www.lenovo.com/us/en/ .

Refresh rate, are we talking CRT's here or what?? The biggest difference between PowerPC/SPARC/UltraSPARC(PA-RISC, MIPS, etc etc) and a x86 chip is the instruction set (RISC vs CISC). But, Sun also does sell a lot of workstation models that have x86 chips in them too.

I think your statement that Mac CPU's are "faster and more reliable" than x86 processors is just not true at all. After all, if this was the case why would Apple have plans to phase out PowerPC chips in favor of x86 chips??

I think you mean just BSD, not "FreeBSD". The MacOS kernel (the Darwin kernel) is based on the Mach kernel (originally from Carnegie Mellon) and the kernel's subsystems are using portions of 4.4BSD kernel.

Compatibility with what? Windows programs won't run under MacOS without some sort of emulation happening, if that's what you mean. And even though it's technically possible I doubt that MS would license any of the required libraries/API's to Apple. (why not? http//www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx)

Well I got mine on eBay for $1700 shipped. It's the newest generation, 512ram (uprgraded to 1gig for only $33), and so on. It was sealed and NIB.

I thought it was a great deal, so I snatched it up. The same thing would have run $2150 w/ tax at an Apple Store.

I have a new ibook.. (gonna sell the other one) but what is the main difference between the Ibooks and the powerbooks? I could sell both Ibooks and buy a briliant powerbook.. but whats the big difference? I mean after rebates and discounted gift cards I could probably get the 2K powerbook for 1400....
