Then do laptops.freepay for a decent lappie.

Don't get the Cyberpower.
I've had nothing but problems with it, hasn't worked from day 3, the customer service reps are moronic and I have to send parts back at my expense with no apology or refund from them.
That Compaq desktop looks pretty sweet.

05-12-2005 23:08:36
But, warning, apparently the Cyberpower takes over a month to get to you because they're custom built.
Also, it was TSJ or FON I believe, who was having TONS of problems with it. Although there aren't many horror stories.

laptops.freepay will take too long 20 referrals jebus !

I actually got my Cyberpower quite quickly, 2 weeks before I thought I would, but that has been the only good thing about it so far.

I'm not telling you to get the Cyberpower or anything but I've had mine since May and it's been fine. It seems kind of hit and miss, though, so if you really REALLY need a new comp you should probably get something else.

thanks have anyone of you heard of them before or used there systems ?

[quote98a0e4f940="theysayjump"]I've had nothing but problems with it, hasn't worked from day 3[/quote98a0e4f940]
It's important to note that I never viewed the Cyberpower as an out of the box "just plug it in" desktop. I had no clue about Cyberpowers rep, but I knew the parts, and the specs blew the other choices away.
[quote98a0e4f940="theysayjump"]the customer service reps are moronic and I have to send parts back at my expense with no apology or refund from them.[/quote98a0e4f940]
Agreed, they suck ass, but again, I wanted a box that I was gonna add on to, so I didn't expect a lot. Thankfully I never had to send anything to them, but they stiffed me on my cathode, and it took awhile to get that.
I'd still get the Cyberpower, especially now it's a better build, but if you want a simple plug in and go, get something else.

the parts it uses seems a lot better than the compaq's, so if you're picking one of the laptops, i'd go for that one.
if you're wanting the better computer, do the cyberpower xplorer.
i think my dad had an ACER a long time ago, they're pretty good computers from what I remember.

I don't know this firsthand, but aren't people complaining about the Acer's battery time?
Wolfeman
05-12-2005 23:20:33
I'd get the Cyberpower Xplorer for a desktop or the Acer as the laptop...
shamash
05-12-2005 23:22:05
You could always just get a better battery for it. I'll agree though, if you want a laptop, you're going to want to do laptops.freepay.com, as they are more expensive and have better battery along with other features.

Am I missing something, or do the specs on that compaq presario blow the Cyber away? Honestly, Cyber is a cheap company that uses cheaper parts that look cool. If you don't want to get F'd in the long run, go with the presario.
It has better processor, same ram, and way bigger HD.
shamash
06-12-2005 06:48:51
But what about the video card, and audio card? It depends on what you want to use the computer for, in all honestly. And I'm sure the Xplorer has room for another hard drive to be mounted, and those aren't very expensive around now, even after black friday they're pretty cheap.

get a different video card. you can still get a 9800 pro or something in place of it.

You don't know if the presario has any open slots, and on non-gaming computers a lot of stuff is usually integrated.
The xplorer still looks better to me, not only because it looks cool, but because it's easily upgradable and already a pretty good gaming computer.

They may be a cheap company, but all the components in my Cyber were name brand, and al lot of it was retail non-oem too.
[quotea76b3f2cf5="Gigante"]If you don't want to get F'd in the long run, go with the presario.

And an OEM case, with likely no room for real upgrading. On the other hand the Aspire case rocks, with 10 drive bays.

Right again.
Lower-end name brand out-of-the-box desktops are intergrated out the wazoo, and usually leave little room for improvement. It costs them more, and it isn't in their interest . They want you t buy another PC. Their OEM cases and mobos are textbook cases of planned obselence, while retail cases and components will try to catch your eye by offering more options and room for upgrades.
That's why those who can afford it, build their own.
So, keeping in mind that not any of the choices here are high end ($500 or so), the Cyberpower is the best buy, even if just for the individual omponents alone.

thanks everyone again
what are all your thought of the compaq laptop i read better reviews and no battery complaints on it so far comapred to the acer laptop
Tholek
06-12-2005 12:28:01
Looks like you've narrowed it down to laptops alone, eh? )
I guess I'd go with the Acer. It has a wider screen and a burner.
Also, in general I'd say take the Sempron over the Celeron, but it's a Celeron [i384d00a4b0]M[/i384d00a4b0] versus a standard Sempron. I'm not sure if the Sempron would stand up as well to the Celeron M compared to a Sempron M.

Acer IS a name brand. Albeit, not as well known as Compaq.
Averatec, would be more of an unknown. (NB4F)
