He said he had a bomb. You gotta shoot him. You can't let him blow up the whole plane...

From what I got by listening to the live feed and they said he was trying to get out of the plane and yelled it and when he didn't listen to the marshals to stop he reached down to his bag and then was shot.

my guess is suicide by cops
He has been pronounced dead.

He was on a flight from Colombia to Orlando that stopped in Miami. When you are international you have to go through customs the first US city you land in. So he got off the plane, went through customs, and was re-boarding when he was shot. There are reports he was bi-polar...

Yeah his wife told reporters and the marshals (sometime after the shooting) that he was bipolar and off his meds.

The marshall did everything he was supposed to do...there is no way he could have known the man was "bipolar and off his meds" - nor should it matter. Just because the man was bipolar doesn't mean he didn't really have a bomb...

The Air Marshalls did what they had to do, but he didn't have a bomb.

The Bi-Polar thing only comes into play as an explanation for what he did.

I heard this on the radio, I heard that there is no confirmation that he had a bipolar disorder, and a passenger just reported that..
Why would they shoot him if the plain already landed? why did they have to shoot to kill? He was just reaching into his pocket, they could have shot his hand off. Was there a bomb in the end? What does his wife have to say about all this?

OK so what would you say if the marshall was there and the guy said he had a bomb, reached into his pocket and hit the trigger and blew up a walkway and a lot of people? Everyone would be freaking out that the marshall didn't shoot him...

I guess you are right... but was there even a bomb on board?

It's not like there were snipers there that could have made an accurate shot at his hand, the marshal was probably armed with a pistol. When a guy saying he has a bomb reaches into his suitcase, what was the marshal supposed to think?

They use 9mm SIG pistols if I'm not mistaken. I'm all for trying to resolve a situation without anyone getting hurt but if this was a traffic stop and a cop thought the guy had a gun and the dude reached for his pocket he'd be shot too...

By the reports that I've been hearing it sounds like there were two marshals on the plane. Anyone else get that impression?

There's always at least two.

Yeah, i'm sure. They said it a couple times on the news today. They're not allowed to say how many there actually are, but they did say they never travel alone.

That's fucking crazy! Kind of a fucked up situation. That guy must have had some serious bipolar issues.
I agree with everyone else though, I mean if the marshalls hadn't shot him and watched him blow up half the airport we would all be blaming them and Bush.

I'd have to say Chicago O'Hare is the worst. Its always super busy, the airport is massive, and the weather sucks any time of year...
theysayjump
08-12-2005 12:24:53
Yeah O'Hare is pretty shit, although it looks kinda cool. Especially when you go under the bridge and there's a plane on top "driving" over your head.
JFK is kinda pants but I like San Francisco's airport. It's clean and not too busy.
