External Hard Drive
Ok, I'm looking to get an external harddrive, either USB or FireWire, probably something 200GB or over. Anyone have any suggestions?

I would recommend just buying a 200GB drive on sale for around $50 these days and getting a $30 enclosure with USB or Firewire - cheaper and easier to upgrade.

Apple is phasing Firewire out, so if you plan on getting a new computer EVER, get it with USB.

Why? I really like FireWire, plus I have recording equipment that's FireWire-based.

I'd think they'd phase our usb, its slow and incompatable with video. keep firewire!

If i were you would get an internal hard drive, because you canf ind large ones for very cheap sometimes. And then pay like 20 bucks for a hard drive enclosure and there you go, you have an external hard drive.

Apparently to appease Intel and other companies they are soon to work on a large scale with.

Why doesn't Intel like FireWire? And is there any way to buy a card or something and install it to get FireWire? Or is it going completely out of production?

This enclosure is tits.
There are cheaper options, but you can probably throw this mutha down a flight of stairs and still be able to hook it up and have it work like it just got done taking a restful little nap. I recommends-it.
The great thing about an enclosure is you can have one or two of them and several hard drives and then just swap them out. Say your mother board takes a crap, just load your old HD into an enclosure and you can easily move all your files to the new computer.
With an enclosure, you'll soon find yourself buying cheap internal hard drives for no other reason than they're cheap. "Oooh, I can use this one for like, my, uhh, collection of WWE photos...err something." Trust me, when you see that first drive on sale for $20 bucks, you won't be able to help yourself.
Hell, even $40 isn't bad...
