So I saw the movie tonight, and I'd have to say it was pretty good. The theater was full of girls and gays mostly. This one did not make my gf cry, although I saw some people bawling at the end.
You get to see Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams' breasteses...

I was wondering when someone would start a thread about this!
Well, I really don't have much of an opinion. I mean, I guess it proves a point in some ways...that a lot of people are leading double lives and going through crazy emotions right now being "married" but having homosexual attractions...
I guess it just shows how cinema is beginning to become more radical and open minded in some ways...
Like everything of course, the audience will have extreme yay and extreme nay feelings...it just depends on who you are...

true, one thing i've realized is that as the world moves toward globalization. the majority of people that use "gay" in a derogatory way are little 8th graders. but a movie about gay cowboys? that's kinda oddd......(but does show media's openmindedness)

Well, I think it's normal if people don't want to see movies with certain subject matters since it just doesn't appeal to them. In this case, I don't think it necessarily makes people homophobic. I have absolutely no desire to see RENT, and if someone says 'OMG u homophobe!' or something like that they can kiss my ass.
I didn't feel like seeing it either after I saw the preview but I went to see this movie because it was supposed to be very good and my gf wanted to see it. I usually don't like to go see dramas in theaters since I might be bored and it would probably be fine on DVD but I wasn't disappointed. Crash is another example of a drama that I saw in the theater that I liked.

I understand the story (I read the actually story the movie is based on) but I'm still not sure I want to see it (don't want to go into why).
The way I view the situation is this some may believe homosexuality is wrong (not saying I do or don't, just giving an example) so they wouldn't want to see something that was against their beliefs, just like with The Passion of the Christ. I can go on and on about how I thought it was a great movie, but non-Christians probably still didn't go see it. lishrugli
In short, it doesn't matter to some people whether the movie is "great" or not...if they don't believe in something, they don't have to go see it.
hehehhehe
19-12-2005 13:19:09
I'm not religious at all and I saw the Passion. I thought it was artistically well done.
I am open to those that don't feel like seeing the movie like I said, we all have our likes and dislikes. However, regardless of whether you want to see this movie, if you believe homosexuality is "wrong" because of your religion you are a fucking idiot. I guess if religious people are going to be so judgemental, I should in turn be allowed to judge these backwards hillbillies.

Everything is paid for you. When you're done with the movie, put it back in the slip, peel the sticker, and seal it. The postage is paid already so you just have to hand it to your mail lady/man to take it. It's the best online service. It seriously can't get any easier.

Say a movie was shipped today, it arrives tomorrow. If I send it back a day after (Wednesday), it arrives back to them on Thursday and usually ship the next movie that same day. It's three at a time, so you can stagger your movies and you always have something to watch.
P.S; I think Freepay had the Netflix offer for a while. I know Trainn still has it. It might be under the "B" level.

[quote62acc9af17="shamash"]Do any sties give a green for it?
How long does it take for the movies to get to you?[/quote62acc9af17]
I think I have seen it as an offer on a few sites. Definitely a service worth keeping too!
Doesn't take but about two days for me to get my movies. They have distribution centers all over the US and they ship the movies to you from the closest center that has the movie in stock.
The website is great too. The movie reviews are good; similar to the ones you'd find on imdb/rottentomatoes etc. You can rate and review movies. You can also recommend movies to friends on your netflix buddy list.
[quote70e7e89b8e="shamash"]125 pts on flashipods. Not bad but not great.
How much is it monthly?[/quote70e7e89b8e]
I pay 19.95. Think about how much you pay to rent a movie from a Blockbuster store, or Hollywood video. Now times that by the amount of movies you rent a month. It's a great service and the price is pretty dandy too.

I think it's 17.95 a month for the standard membership (3 out at a time).

Never do Netflix as an offer, you won't get credit for about 2 months.
Did you guys get a version of Queer As Folk over here? I know we had it in the UK about 10 years ago or so and I thought they were going to make an American version. Basically it was about a group of gay guys/kids and their lives, living in London. There was quite a bit of shagging in it and it was actualy a really really good series. Kind of controversial at the time.

I don't watch QAF, but I know a few people who do.
And 19.99 a month? I thought it was like 9.99 a month / Hmph. Maybe I"ll have to think about this one.

Yeah, we got it. It's on Showtime. I heard about it when I was in High School and it was controversial. I never got a chance to watch it, even though I've seen little animated icons of...scenes... ;)

but i mean like non-gay sexual movies..
I still don't understand your question.

i [i715d0c4c62]think[/i715d0c4c62] i understand what he means. do you watch movies that are not like brokeback mountain or the birdcage or something that has to do with gay people?
I don't even want to answer that idiot question, if that's what he's really asking.

haha I don't see why they wouldn't. They are [be2345b4f2a]people[/be2345b4f2a] like you and I. Oh well, it was coming from a 16 year old, although I had a lot more sense than that just a few years ago.

AHH. I see. You should have said that from the beginning. I would imagine so. They probably don't get turned on like straight people might, but then again in a movie it usually isn't meant to titillate unless it's a porno or something. Brokeback Mountain wasn't meant to get you off, I watched it just fine and I am straight. It was just a really good movie.

That's still a stupid question. You're asking if we don't watch ANY OTHER movies that have sex in them with a man or a woman?
So I'm guessing this is how you think we see it
"Hey! Hostel looks really good...oh wait...male and female sex only. Can't watch it."
Get a clue, man.

i must have read it wrong. o well. i will probably see this movie eventually. however, everyone said million dollar baby was a good movie and i wasnt impressed. crash was great though. i told my mom i would see the movie and she got all evangelical on my ass. i then told her that the bible also says that any man that sleeps in the same bed as his wife on her period should be put to death and along came the awkward silence.

haha. Yeah, it's a good movie. I didn't think about them being gay as much as I thought I would though. It is just a really good movie and I think that's why Ang Lee directed it so well, he got you to see past them being gay and to the point where you just see that they love each other. Okay, the way I am talking, I'm beginning to have question... lol just kiddin'.
