It was weird...I went into Blimpie to get a sandwhich, and I asked the guy if they were hiring. He said some stuff about that in order to work the slicer i have to be 18 and that i wouldnt be able to get a raise until then...So he didnt even give me an application, and he wanted me to start today but I cant. I was shocked cause I didnt fill out an application or have an interview or anything. So im going in tomorrow at 1000 for training or whatever. The only thing is I cant work until like 1100 when the new quarter starts so I can try to still graduate, and Ill probably have to walk for a while. So I dont know what to do...I guess I will go in tomorrow and just see whats up. The only other job Ive ever had was at a technical support place, and thats totally different than this, so I dont know what to expect......
if your not 18 you cant operate any machinery no slicer or anything.
with blimpie i dunno anything other than that.
anyways good luck my man and hope you enjoy it i can tell you now working in a deli is balls and its boring

true i didnt look at your age and i was being a retard
all i think is gonna happen is he is gonna have you work as if you 18 and if anything happens both of you are fucked

03-01-2006 12:08:16
Yeah...so should I take the job???
Money seems like it would be nice, but if you're doing just fine without the job, I'd focus on high school first and turning 18. If they still want you and you'd still like to work there, go for it. Chances are, you'll get yourself a better job.
i guess take the job and get experience it looks good when u get a better job

i got a job at 16 and i worked myself up from cashier > courtest > front end manager > 1st tier co manager
once i finish college imma try for a better job

I would not worry about not being able to work the slicer. It is just OSHA rules, am i'm sure there is plenty more work to do around there. I also wouldn't flake on the manager. Tell him tommorow what your schedule will be. It seems pretty weird that he didn't go over that with you though.
But i wouldn't get to stuck with a job that pays $5.40. I didn't know that people still got paid that low.

I got $6/hour at Subway.

tylerc

Minimum wage is minimum wage, which in Indiana is like $5.40 or something.

Yeah well Ive decided to call him in the morning and see what I can do. The thing is he wants me to work full time, and I can only work like 1130AM to 600PM because of school.
And about the whole slicer dealy, whenever I go there, its usually only one person there, so how does that work out if I was alone? Anyhow.....any more suggestions?
Oh, and minimum wage has always sucked in Utah, and its the same no matter what age you are.

Yeah Texas also uses federal min wage. Too bad we have a republican controlled congress we could have had min wage at 7$ over three years.

the federal minimum wage is $5.15 for small companies and $5.40 for larger companies (500 employees a think). However, local and state minimum wage statues will superceed the federal minimum wage. the rationale behind not raising the minimum wage is that, statistically, there is a distinct correlation between lowered economic growth and higher minimum wages. However, I am a republican and I believe the lowest wage should be $7.00.
