Hey I was wondering if rental DVDs from blockbuster and the like are normal DVDs. The rental DVDs always seem to have longer commercials so I ask the question are they the same as the ones from a retail store.

no, they aren't.
Most blockbuster rentals include previews at the beginning that aren't found in the retail version. So remember that when you are buying those rediculously priced $12 used DVDs at blockbuster.
Although some retail versions have these previews as well. I was pretty fucking pissed when the 3rd family guy volume included a huge preview section that you can't skip through. I didn't pay for that shit.
