I've been having a big problem with this virus
W32.HLLP.Sality

I can't remove it, norton just keeps saying "access to file denied"
I then took the hard drive out and brought it to ano ther computer and ran a scan on the harddrive using that computer. Says virus is detected and removed it. When i bring it back to my computer, it starts up and the virus is instantly detected by norton and says access to file denied........

Any ideas?? I can't remove the virus either way, safe mode, nor system restore turned off. I'm stumped....... First time i bumped into a virus this powerful.

i've been to that link, no help ( whatever i do, norton keeps saying file access is denied........ in safe mode, with system restore off.......

probably have to go to the conventional "swipe the harddrive clean" method.

reboot in safe mode and do a norton scan in safe mode, that should remove it. If not try the free scan at bitdefender.com, also in safe mode of course.

Your first mistake is using Norton.

Your second mistake is not using Kaspersky. wink

Norton blows. I really like TrendMicro...

i guess i should really switch to a "better" antivirus program.

Any recommendations?

AVG is the best, low resources.

NOD32 has worked great for me. Takes up half the memory firefox does.
