I have like 6 gbs of music on my old computer that I can't put on my ipod bc the cdrom is messed up (can't load the disk) and the usb port is too old/slow. Does anyone know any way I can transfer them over? I tried email but I would have to send 1100 individual files to myself. I have the songs in folders by album (like 20) but I can't figure out how to send a folder. Any help would be appreciated.

You could always make a few zips with several folders or one huge zip and then you could, like you said, email it to yourself and then download them again on the other computer. 6gb is going to take a while, though.

burn them to cds? you can get 700mb/cd... so it will only take like 8ish.

Another idea
Make a zip with all your music then make a torrent and download with the other computer.

ah i thought the ipod part was the only part ufcking up

i'd suggest taking the HD out and putting it into the slave position on your other cpu, then dragging them over.

How would I do that Shamash? The other computer is a laptop if that makes any difference.

Well, how do I take the HD out and what is the slave position?

Are they connected to a network by any chance?

if they are connected to a physical network, drag it through there

if they are connected to a wireless network 6gigs will take you hours.. but you can do it anyways...

you can right click the folder and make it shared in the properties, then goto "my network places" and copy the music out of it.

I have a 256 mb memory stick, I guess I could just do that... It will take a while, but not as long as it will to download.

I'll try that first.

some people miss the point of a network

What do you mean? I know that my memory stick is not a network, but it was much quicker than using the wireless network at my house.

He doesn't mean your wireless connection, he means any and all computers in your house can all be connected to share folders between each of them.

I tried doing that but, like I said the cdrom was messed up so I couldnt burn a cd to set up the network? If there is another way please tell me. Sorry I am not the proficient with this kind of thing.

it could vary somewhat depending on your setup. Assuming all of your machines are windows

Sometimes you may have to setup the network, try this on XP

start - all programs - accessories - communications - network setup wizard

just click next throught the prompts, select the option, "This computer connects through a gateway or another computer on my network"

The workgroup name can be anything, but use the same workgroup on each computer you do this on.

Do this on each XP machine, if you have an older version of windows you can use a XP CD to run this same wizard on it.

Then do what shamash said

[quote559513c7c8]you can right click the folder and make it shared in the properties, then goto "my network places" and copy the music out of it.[/quote559513c7c8]

Right click on the folder you want to share and go to "sharing and security", check share this folder, allow users to change files

Then you can access it from the other computer by going to my network places in the start menu.

what about a MAC and a XP computer on the same network, will the setup be similar?

I'm lazy but would like to setup a network of my own, xigxag hook me up

yeah do the same thing on your xp machine, run network setup wizard, right-click share whatever folders you want.

on the mac there should be a network icon when you open the HD, go there, and it should see the name of your workgroup (mshome default), there you just click the comp name, then the folder and the mac will mount the folder.

should be easy, but things seem to happen sometimes
