I had a similar thread like this ages ago but now the powerball jackpot has reached a record high again.

[quoteb820668816]Powerball Jackpot Hits New Record
By Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa - Another record lottery jackpot is up for grabs.

With no winner Wednesday, the multistate Powerball jackpot jumped to $365 million for Saturday's drawing, the largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

The previous record for a U.S. lottery was $363 million in the Big Game, the forerunner of Mega Millions. It was won by two ticket holders in Illinois and Michigan in 2000. The last Powerball record was $340 million, won by an Oregon family in October.

Powerball tickets are sold in 28 states, along with the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.[/quoteb820668816]

What would you do if you actually won the 365 million? would you drop out of school? would you work or still pursue freebies?....

If i won Id buy s big house with a pool, indoor skate park, and gym
id also get to try skydiving and snowboarding whenever the hell i wanted
Id quit school and work and id still pursue freebies D

I would take $10 million and enjoy it, and then invest the rest of the money. I'd finish up school and then grad school, and work at the job like I planned to originally, but I would have a huge ass supplemental income. Interest on that money alone nets you millions a year, and then I can be productive doing something I like and enjoy the luxuries.

If I won, I'd take the 146 million after tax payday and live off of the 730,000 monthly interest payments. And of course, that means everything is open season. I'd never work, never go to school, I'd just travel and buy homes in gorgeous locations and love every single day.

Then after 6 months, when I was bored I'd set up pro bono legal funds and daycare centers for the poor. It'd be awesome.

I'd spend $42,805 buying everyone a stupid custom title on this site. I'd probably complete every site just to take screen shots and act like I'm the shit. I'd probably put 100 million in a bank account Tennessee is 35% capital gains tax I believe, which would knock my 365 mil down to $127,750,000. I'd take the $27,707,195 that I have left and buy me a house, some really nice watches, a few million condoms, few million candy bars, and that $215,000 emerald Tiffany necklace they have. God this is probably the worst reply on this thread.

So you're saying to them "Hey, i'll buy a house for you, it doesn’t matter if you have a job or not"

I would imagine a better investment would be to donate it to legit charities and also help out low income families that are actually trying. What i stated is not applicable to everyone, but i would imagine its somewhat of a majority.

Jump think about this

You buy a dSLR but then you notice you need to buy lenses, batteries, cases, memory, and more lenses for it.

You give someone with no money a house, how are they going to pay gas, electricity, water, property tax, much less furnish it?

theysayjump

It's very narrow-minded to assume that all homeless peopple are lazy. I mean I can't imagine why anyone would want to be homeless.

Not everyone who is homeless is dumb, or can't get a job, but lots of jobs require you to have a fixed or permanent address. Giving someone a home or a permenant residence would be a good start to them making something of themselves or doing something with their lives.

Obviously just giving some random homeless person a house and then fucking off would be pretty much pointless but you can look into doing it a better way.

It's all hypothetical anyway.

I can't comment on this country, but in Scotland, if your poor or low-income, the government can and will pay for your rent, mortgage, bills and whatnot until you can get on your feet.

You just have to make regular contact with them, go to meetings, they try to get you jobs, put you in touch with employers, send you to companies who help you prepare for interviews, right up your CV etc.

When I was unemployed, they had an agreement wih a local department store where they would give you token to go and buy clothes and shoes and whatever else you may need to get an interview. They also paid for me to get the bus to go to job interviews.

Like I said, I don't know what it's like here though.

[quotedb40b4dd0a="theysayjump"][quotedb40b4dd0a="CoMpFrEaK"]Jump think about this

You buy a dSLR but then you notice you need to buy lenses, batteries, cases, memory, and more lenses for it.

You give someone with no money a house, how are they going to pay gas, electricity, water, property tax, much less furnish it?[/quotedb40b4dd0a]

Like I said, I don't know what it's like here though.[/quotedb40b4dd0a]

America hates poor people. We all want to believe that any financial goal is possible as long as we work for it, so we figure anyone who is poverty stricken is there primarily because they refuse to work for what could be their's. That makes it their fault, so no one has to feel bad about their situation or help them.

which is horrifying.
