Last year was very good for me, so I'm almost 100% on "profit" money, I was able to take my initial investments out, after a very bullish year.

I'm doing a statewide stock market simulation competition right now in economics.

Here's my portfolio, if anyone cares

377.00 AAPL 70.99
175.00 CVX 57.10
200.00 EBAY 41.28
200.00 GM 20.11
65.00 GOOG 390.37
375.00 HPQ 33.41
275.00 KMI 93.00
250.00 KO 42.53
200.00 LLY 56.73
150.00 LPL 22.85
325.00 MO 72.72
350.00 PFE 26.60
200.00 WFC 64.49
225.00 WM 43.29
225.00 YHOO 32.74
150.00 YUM 49.44

The number on the left is the number of shares, then ticker symbol, then the price we bought them at.

haha i wish the simulation was real. that'd be sweet to get all that money for no money. ok, enough dreaming.

if you play the stock market right, you can make money. be sure in what you invest in, and invest long term.

i personally have been doing alright in the stock-y market-y too. this year...um, i think my stocks all went up (significantly). makes me feel happy inside.

also, jake, didn't Gratis end up on the Fortune 500 this year? congrats on that, and very nice. didn't it say that you had like 7 employees and 27 mil or something close? very nice, and not too baddddd.....

end and end the stock market is just another one of those "games" i play...in hopes of winning D

28-02-2006 20:55:48

oh yeah, PoPo, what did you invest in.

and didn't i hear google dropped like $20+ a share the past couple days?

tylerc

28-02-2006 21:00:11

It dropped $27.76 today.

[quoteb752da73e2="tylerc"]It dropped $27.76 today.[/quoteb752da73e2]

Why?

Also, when it comes to those simulations, usually a group will put all their money into some small stock and hope that it goes up. They'll buy shares for like $1, it'll go up like .25 or something insignificant, and you've made a quarter of your money. Of course no one would do this in real life, because if it went down .25, you've lost all that money.

Keeping up the pace of growth that Google have experienced over the past little while is undoubtedly very difficult.

Slow and steady wins the race in the end....especially in the stock market.
Some guys might get lucky in the short term but the majority who try to play this way lose badly.

Did you know that you can sometimes cheat on this. The real time tickers are usually 15 seconds ahead of the tickers that these simulators use. I had three frineds finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd in a simulation last spring semester at my college.

megotcash

01-03-2006 07:03:11

yeah google dropped mainly becuase they cannot always keep up with their own pace. kinda crazy...

also if the simulation is based off the actual stock market, then buying shares in mass to make it go up a quarter won't work.

haha, the 15 seconds thing rules. i knew that some where delayed, but if you can find the right stocks, 15 seconds can help you win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. did they win cash, or was this a site that gives out cash?

Its a roller coaster, those that are greedy or pigs get caught at the top, and watch it fall fast.

When a stock rises, take a little off the top, don't be a hog!

Diversify

megotcash

of course diversity is one of the smartest ways to invest, but getting greedy at the top? can you please rephrase the "take a little off the top, don't be a hog" statement. i didn't quite receive your enlightenment.

When your stock rises, take a little bit out and invest it elsewhere. Leave the rest in to keep growing.

It was the school that gave it out and they honored at an end of the year banquet for the entire business college. They won $200, $150 and $100 I think.

I bought a $1000 worth of shares of CMG = Chipotle Mexican Grill and a $1000 of WFMI = Whole Foods

...why?

PoPoJiJo

[quoteaf0c7bb995="tylerc"]...why?[/quoteaf0c7bb995]
lots of reasons..but I'll be breif and u can look up the numbers urself if u really want
CMG - its basically doubled its market every year since it started, and it just had its ipo this feb. I look to see huge long term growth from this company as it is making waves in the fast food industry especially since there tied to MCD now

WFMI - while their stock just had a huge drop I see this as being to my advantage since I see it returning to where it was plus alot more basically whole food = the next starbucks imo
