I'm looking at getting a DSLR and I've heard good things about both these cameras. Anyone have any experience/insight into which is better?

I dunno but when I was in vegas one of my friends had just gotten a new nikon dslr

and he had this badass lens for it it was kinda of a long-telescopic lens, and it had a built in gyroscope for auto steadying the camera.

it was fun as hell to play with, I wanna get one too

but unfortunatly I know nothing about them

he said he researched on photo forums for months before he bought it though, ill a sk him where he looked

K, thanks. I know the Canon is cheaper and smaller but I hear good things about the Nikon. Its a big investment so I want to make sure its right...

yup I've noticed the canons are cheaper also.

Jump and compfreak can probably say more about this to us, as they are actuall photographers.

Have a look at this

I'd go with the Canon. I have the Rebel 300D and CoMpFrEaK has the XT 350D and I think they're better cameras than the Nikon equivelants. The fact that they are generally faster (other than instant on for Nikon compared to 2sec on for Canon), higher resolution, uses Compact Flash which is probably the best flash memory type you can get.

Canon also has probably the biggest line of Lenses available for their cameras (EF, EF-s) as well as great customer and tech support and you know you're getting good quality when you get Canon.

Not that you don't with Nikon but you're paying more for less if you go with the Nikon.

Thanks a lot TSJ. I was leaning towards the Canon anyways since I love their point and shoot cameras. I'll take a look...

Yeah their P&S are probably better than most other P&S.

I know Veek uses a Canon DSLR for his photography.

I agree. My SD300 takes such nicer pictures than my friends Sony and Fuji cameras and mine was cheaper )

he said its mostly preference

also he said one of the reasons he stuck with his nikon was their lens stock is the same

you can use any nikon lens from 1979 up on a new nikon DSLR
