Well i read the book and i am confused on this assignment i got. We are supposed to write what we think are reasonsfor why the author left the creature nameless, and what that is suppose to symbolize. And we have to figure out if people confusing the monster and story by calling him Frankenstein has some sort of meaning based on the author leaving the creature nameless. Anyone have any clue? I read the book and all I can say is this is the most unclear essay topic ever. I believe my English teacher injected herself with some heroin before she assigned this. sigh. (

Well, I read this for English class in HS as well (it's one of the few books I actually read). Frankenstein is the name of th doctor. I remember writing an essay....but it looks like your teacher wants an essay on what the monster symbolizes (I'm guessing he symbolizes the scorn/hatred/blah of society). This is why the author intended to keep the monster nameless....it creates further ambiguity, letting the reader conclude whatever he/she wants the monster to symbolize.

I'm also thinking the significance of the common mistake of giving the monster the name Frankenstein(that of the doctor) is because of the human qualities of fear/hate, etc. Therefore, Dr. Frankenstein, as well as society has all the qualities associated w/ the monster in some form.

lisighli I'm almost wrote your whole essay right there )

Hmmm interesting, what do you mean when you say misnaming the creature symbolizes fear and hate? I was thinking imperfections of humans? Thanks though, you got me started ) +Karma

Check out sparknotes.com if you haven't yet. Just make sure you don't plagiarize anything like some idiots I went to school with.

Well, I might just be BSing it, but when people unknowingly give the name "Frankenstein" to the monster, it might show that [i9814f57043]Dr. Frankenstein[/i9814f57043] has the "bad" qualities of the monster. Sorry if that's still too ambiguous, but if your teacher makes you read "Heart of Darkness", it might become clearer. Good luck D

yeah some idiot got a 2300/2400 on the SAT's here then he decided to plagarize his English paper. He was kicked out of NHS and is now going to UCONN instead of Yale where he would have went. (
