Rather then buy a new desktop with XP Media Center, I downloaded a Media center torrent. Is it possible to keep my current installation of XP and just run media center when I want to stream media to my Xbox 360? Thanks!

You can setup a dual boot, if u have your harddrive partitioned, or 2 harddrives.
You can install media center on the same drive, but will prolly cause problems.

That's what I'm using, and I can stream my music and pictures through regular XP

I do that too and like it, but with media center you can do video and I think access your tv tuner.

you should be able to upgrade your installation within windows
just run the cd when your in windows and select the upgrade option. You will retain your current install and then be using media center.
