I'm looking to buy a great laptop, but I have zero time to go shopping for one. Please give me your best suggestions for a all around machine, work games etc. I want something with a large HD and fast, with good graphics, and I'm trying to stay under 2k.

Links and prices would also be hugely appreciated

+kma for all laptops that meet these specs.

being a mac user i'm obligated to recommend a powerbook. the base model comes in just a dollar shy of your cut-off though.
besides, they run xp the fastest![=http//www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/03/22/mac_fastest_core_duo_laptop/]they run xp the fastest!

These are all good suggestions, but you really have to consider what you want to do with the laptop. If you can give me more info, maybe I can help. Macs are good for somethings, and PC's are good for somethings. It just depends....

I would use it for everything, music, movies, work, images, games...

I'd love to get the new macbook pro 15" 2ghz, but at 2500 bucks its a little steep.

bah! obviously it was a Mac user slip up. we're not quite feeling the macbook pro name. it just doesn't roll off the tongue.
(besides, I run XP Pro on my G5 just fine via virtual PC P )
I've heard the iMac have just normal slots for the intel chips so you could upgrade it to a better one at your leisure. maybe the macbook pro is the same. are you a student? Apple offers a student discount of like 10% or something. all you need to do is pick a school on their site too.
macs are great for resale value too which is always good.

Another vote for Macbook Pro here, you don't have to get a top of the line model of Macbook Pro so you can stay under $2k.

now it's a no-brainer;

personally I'd prefer to be able to run it in OS X without rebooting, but maybe that's the plan for Leopard.

I actually need a laptop myself.

Will be used mainly for work

not too concerned with graphics and stuff but watching movies while traveling will be cool.

Basically looking for a windows based laptop.

1 gig memory
2+ ghz processor
internal wireless

My company will be paying for the laptop so cost isn't too much of a concern as long as I'm not too much over 2,000.

Would ideally like to be in th $800- 1700 range

Done some searches on dell.com for the inspiron and or the xps

Anyone have any better suggestions as to what type of laptop I should look into.

I'm looking at the E1505 dual core from Dell, huge savings on their laptops right now...I dunno...too many to choose...not enough money to buy them all.

You can customize it from that link, the discounts are listed on the right side in the blue pull out menu.

$750 off of $1999+
$450 off of $1499+

that's obscene, they're practically giving them things away. considering the trouble we have with dells at work i can see why.
