what's the best/cheapest hosting out there? I'm wanting like 10-20gigs of storage and probably like 20-50gb of bandwidth.

hey, also....awhile ago I did an offer for Vector and he gave me a year of webhosting..... I'm just wondering if anyone out there that needs a ref can trade for some webhosting?

I got in on the 777 deal too. I think it's still good. Just use the promo code [b42975163df]777[/b42975163df]

I actually just cancelled my Dreamhost account today because my year is up. I would NOT recommend it if you actually need those specs and are really going to use that much bandwidth. If you have a serious site that is going to use a lot of bandwidth, or if you're planning to host large files DH will crap out on you. You'll soon learn that any host that offers you the world will not come through on their claims and will not be as good as an honest host. Once you start using a lot of bw Dreamhost will limit your account and your site will crawl or come to a complete stop.

It was worth ~$7/year.

I also got the free 3 years at 1and1 and will probably renew with them when my time is up (soon I think shock), simply because they are always cheap and I don't need tons of bandwidth.

Yeah man, even if just to store some files, it's worth $10 for a year. Plus you get a free domain with it right? It would probably be more than enough for 95% of the peoples' hosting needs on this forum, I just wanted to warn that if you want to host a real website that will get real traffic (not just a homepage or blog or whatever), Dreamhost might not be enough for you. Basically just don't believe what they tell you about BW because if you ever even attempted to use that much BW you'd get cut off quick.

Dreamhost isn't all that great if you are into advanced web hosting but if u don't mind just using it for personal uses, I think it is great. Speed is considerably good. There are only a few times when the servers go down.

I like it because there is no limitations.

Here's one year of hosting for $10, it's still live. I signed up with them but as I have another host already I haven't tried it out yet. Read good things about them though. Free domain too.

If their PHP support is good, you should be able to install a decent photo gallery CMS (like plogger) too.

You can also wait for the Dreamhost 777 deal, I've had no problems with them.

DreamHost has been good to me. After using someone's referral coupon for a $97 discount off a year's hosting, it cost me around $25 I think. Your available space & bandwidth increases weekly (+1GB for file space, +16GB for bandwidth) from the starting allotment. I currently have 227GB of file space and almost 2.5TB of bandwidth.

Of course, as with most shared hosts, those numbers are mostly theoretical since I'm certain they wouldn't let me sustain 2.4TB of monthly bandwidth. But I'm nowhere near needing it either, as this is a low volume host for me. You get all the usual perks PHP4/5, SSH shell, FTP, Subversion, etc. It's pretty reliable actually. If I can't figure out a way to renew at a discount, I might actually pay full price when it expires early next year.

If you decide to try them out, I can generate a promo code for you that will give you the same $97 off the $119 annual hosting. The discount will be deducted from my $97 ref fee, but that's okay -- I wasn't intending to really make money off referrals with it.

[b8b25746a3b]EDIT[/b8b25746a3b] I just created the $97 off promo code, if you or anybody else wants it. PM me.

GoDaddy is cheap. 3.99 for like 10x the bandwidth you're asking for. Or you can go to something like siteground, which has Cpanel, but its like 5.99 a month.

I prefer to pay for quality rather than an inflated number of the bandwidth I can use. http//www.downtownhost.com/

I used Dreamhost before until they locked me out. They will lock you out for "using too much bandwidth" even if you have unlimited bw, and mind you, I wasn't using a whole lot. Not only did I lose my hosting, I LOST MY FILES. My files I lost were worth much more to me than the $10/mo i saves using dreamhost, and I will never go with such a crappy service again. Just a warning to those of you that value what you are hosting.

While it's true that "unlimited" doesn't really mean "unlimited" unless you pay A LOT for dedicated hosting, I've not had a problem with DreamHost for moderate bandwidth requirements. In fact I'll probably renew with them at full price.

My question to you would be why on earth you would trust valuable files to a host? ANY host? I wouldn't. I backup all critical files and databases on a regular basis, in fact most of my files originate on my local system before being uploaded to the server.

The $97 discount on a year's hosting is the best you can do. As I posted earlier, I can provide you with my own discount code for the $97 discount. I won't get paid anything since I'll be passing the entire referral fee ($97) on to you, but it will at least showup as one of my referrals. Doylnea signed up under me that way. Yeah, no doubt it was a mistake not having the most up-to-date backups, but I found Dreamhost's panel to be a pain, although I think they did get a new panel recently. I had files I originated but not databases and such, which are much more valuable than the files. I couldn't complain about the price through, think it was under $10 for the year.
