Here [=http//imdb.com/title/tt0475276/]Here is the IMDB for the film. What do you all think? Some are saying it's too soon, that it shouldn't be done at all, that every American should go see it, etc. Personally I probably will go see it because it's a fascinating and tragic story, and happened not too far from my hometown.

I refuse to go see it. I think its way too soon and its in poor taste...

Not to sound unsympathetic, but is it really necessary to have the Statue of Liberty on the cover? I mean the WTC I get as a reference point, but give me a break with the rah-rah, America as the land of liberty connection.

Maybe at the cheap seats. I was gonna say no since I already watched the one done by the discovery channel, but this one has gotten great reviews so far. The director, Greengrass, is pretty good.

Another example of Hollywood exploiting the emotions of America roll They better donate their money, or they'll just look like a bunch of assholes.

I will go see this film.

Every now and then, I want to be reminded of everything of that day, and what the world can be during its worst hours and what individuals can be at their finest hours. Since 9/11 there have been too many who have tried to hide the significance of that day. To convince us that it was just an isolated incident that won't repeat itself.

[quotedd57af1322]Another example of Hollywood exploiting the emotions of America Rolling Eyes They better donate their money, or they'll just look like a bunch of assholes.[/quotedd57af1322]

Paul Greengrass proceeded with the film only after securing the approval of every victim’s family, and Universal plans to donate 10 percent of its opening weekend gross to the Flight 93 National Memorial Fund. You can’t contend that Universal hasn’t made a serious effort to be sensitive to the victims’ families.

I'm not going to see it. No matter whose approval they got, or how much they are donating, there's no way you're going to convince me that Universal did this for any other reason then the sound of cash registers going off. Someone at Universal saw Saving Private Ryan on TV every year on Veteran's Day and put two and two together. Mark my words, once this is on TV, it'll be on every year on 9/11 (assuming it's halfway decent). Ca-ching.

On the other hand, I don't think it's too soon. I agree that there are scads of Americans that need to see a film dealing with 9/11 because I imagine that it must seem so far away to them. I know that's kind of how I felt when the Oklahoma City bombing happened.

In other words, guess I'm torn about it.

meh, I don't see the point. Just another excuse for America to stroke itself over how great it thinks it is. yawn... Instead of yet another human interest story, maybe it would be better to actually hold the government accountable for its foreign policies...

21-04-2006 20:04:15

Hollywood is running out of ideas for movies.. They've done the sequals and remakes to death and now they are exploiting a tragic event in every American's life... Just to make a quick buck. Now if a decent portion of the money (let's say 10%) was donated to the victim's families... I'd see it.

And I don't think 10% is even close to being enough.

You guys complain about Universal making money, but that is the function of a business, so get over it.

Wolfeman

I don't care about the money, I just think its too early to make a movie about this. It was less than 5 years ago...

They are releasing it right at the time that people are losing confidence in the Iraqi war and our government in general. Coincidence? or Propaganda.

Coincidence. It takes time to develop the screenplay and make it happen. This is about the right time for that to happen if they started working on it a little bit after the events.

How do they know what happened on the plane if everyone died? I know there were some cell phone calls, but none of those chronicled the minute by minute account of the actions. 90% of this movie will be the product of a hollywood writer. and that is bullshlit.

syriandoode

23-04-2006 17:08:50

those cell phone calls were constant for the duration of the flight and the people on the floor recorded everything that was said

despite the fact that it is a lihollywood thingli turning real tragic events into $$$, i think i will go see it. from the trailers and what little bits i've seen of it, it looks really good. hopefully it will be more of an lihonorli type of movie rather than a lihollywoodli movie.

Same. Saw it last night when it came out. Pretty depressing. I wanted to see it because my favorite review, James Berardinelli, gave it four stars and it is the only four star movie of 2006 for him. Good movie though. VERY slow considering it is more real-time, so the events unfold really slow but simulate like you are there.

hehehhehe

29-04-2006 21:26:27

Wow good. Very tastefully done. Thank god it wasn't someone like Micheal Bay or someone similar directing such a film.

The only thing that ruined it for me a bit was this slob motherfucker sitting next to us that went through his popcorn like an animal and kept shaking his ice in his fucking empty soda (which he also guzzled loudly). He kinda talked to himself too, but he left in the middle and never came back.

I watched this movie also (although I originally said I wouldn't )). I hadn't noticed [spoiler300cc32eb5]that they didn't show previews until I read that[/spoiler300cc32eb5]. I did notice the latter, however, which was pretty interesting.

Another thing was a few people tittered during parts that were supposed to be serious. I don't blame them though, as some of the lines were stupid (they were probably made-up lines, not what they actually said).

Lastly, a huge suprise for me was that the ATC/Control Tower scenes were very accurate. I've actually been inside both, and it was very similar to what goes on. Now if Hollywood applied this effort to other movies, I believe they would be much more enjoyable. Also surprised at the high rating on rottentomatoes (93%).
