I got the MX3000 and it's pretty fucking sweet. Works great for games, batteries in the mouse last for about 8 weeks, in the keyboard it's still got the same ones I put in when I got it about 3 months ago.
Good features, easily customisable, not too big but the mouse isn't as good as the one you have at the moment, although it is good.

I'm a big fan of Logitech wireless stuff. I have the MX3100 combo which includes the MX1000 mouse. I took it to the office after buying my G15 keyboard and G7 mouse for gaming.

It's their "laser" mouse -- not the MX1000 though. I do believe it's available separately too.
OT BTW Wolfie, how'd those compression coax fittings work out?

It worked out prefect. Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to go with the MX3000. Is the mouse nice TSJ? The keyboard uses AA but does the mouse? I loved that the MX1000 has a charger...

Yeah this isn't a charger and it uses AA's. They last about 8 weeks though which isn't bad.
I got mine (keyboard/mouse) from NewEgg for about $65.

Yeah I didn't like the reviews of the MX5000 and the MX3000 got 4/5 stars. I just need to find a cheap place to buy AA batteries now P

Rechargeable NiMH's are your friends. )
I have lots of NiMH's now and a large multi-battery charger that I keep full. I never buy disposables anymore, other than to keep a few on-hand for the kids' remotes or something (I'm afraid they'll throw away my rechargeables without realizing).

Since you seem to be the expert on all tech...
Best batteries? Best place to get them?

i would love to move over to a setup like this, but is there really no lag with high end units?
there is no way i could deal with that shit when playing games, etc.

I just buy the rechargeables from Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. Energizers usually, sometime Rayovacs. I buy both rechargeable alkalines and NiMH's, but mostly NiMH's. Alkalines come charged out of the package and will hold a charge a long time, while NiMH's come dead and will slowly drain when not being used. However they have higher power output and more consistent voltage until they die completely while alkalines drop in voltage steadily over their lifetime.
The charge is a large 8-battery open bay charger from Lowes or Home Depot, I've had it for years and can't remember. It's made by Rayovac.

Lag with quality wireless peripherals is no longer true, that's a "myth" that won't die from the early days of wireless mice when it was a big problem. Pretty much every high-end Logitech mouse since the MX700 has not lagged in game, especially the MX1000 and up. The absolute best mouse I've ever seen for gaming is the G7, and it's wireless.
The only way a wireless setup will give you problems is if you have some strong interference near your setup. They operate on the 2.4Ghz spectrum so keep cordless phones, WiFi, and microwaves from being too close and you should be good. But FWIW, my 802.11b access point is located about 2 feet to the side of my G7 and receiver, and it doesn't affect it AT ALL. My MX1000 however, was a bit more sensitive to interference so I had to be more careful.

I just got my MX3000 Laser Desktop. I like the keyboard a lot. Haven't quite gotten use to the keyboard but its nice. The mouse isn't as nice as my MX1000 but its mellow. For $60, its a good deal...
