I just bought the Samsung 204B[=http//www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001226]Samsung 204B form BestBuy and it has 1 dead pixel. Do you think I should return it or just deal with it?

It isnt easy to return stuff to best buy..

Yeah just 1 dead pixel is pretty ok. The monitor is fucking tight )

Is it a stuck pixel, or a dead pixel? If it's stuck (bright white or another color) you might be able to unstick it. Google around for advice, there are programs out there that you run to stress an LCD through a lot of color changes, and are known to unstick pixels.

Edit http//www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Stuck-Pixel-on-an-LCD-Monitor (instructions on the "pressure" fix as well as links at the bottom for the aforementioned programs)

BTW got my 2407FPW from I-Deal today!

Hey...I was thinking of getting that monitor also (w/ my own $$) dmorris. I was stuck either between that one or the BenQ 20.1" widescreen. The Dell supposedly is much sharper, etc. The BenQ is much cheaper though. Which would you recommend? (sorry for this minor thread-jack)

Wolfeman

26-07-2006 15:53:06

Its dark so I think its dead but I'll try the unsticking thing later.

How's that 24" looking?

For a moment there I thought I-Deal had DQ'd me, so I was just about to spend the money and buy it anyway. ) Dell UltraSharps are some of the best LCD's on the market, and the 24" is top-notch.

BenQ's are really hit & miss. It seems they OEM a different panel like every other production run, so quality is inconsentent. Some have been very good for the money, others total crap. Unless the deal was liextremelyli good or you could lay eyes on the unit you were going to take home, I would pass and go with Dell or Samsung -- the top 2 LCD monitor makers.

Just now getting around to unboxing it. The wife made me setup the new bedroom home theater so she could go to bed and watch TV. I've got to program the new Harmony remote for her, then I'll get to setting it up. )

I bought one for my dad and its great. What model did you get?

dmorris68

26-07-2006 17:58:44

Both of mine are 676's. The ones with the changeable faceplates (that we don't use). I like these because of the button feel and layout.

All Harmony's are identical internally, in terms of programming support. The differences are in the button configurations and the addition of RF support and rechargeable batteries in the higher-end models. Of all the ones I've looked at, I preferred the 676 to the rest.

Return it or it will bother jew forever.

JOSHBOX

if it is within 14 days monitors can be returned w/o restocking fee. Get the product you deserve, you paid enough for it.

Problem is BB is sold out of it now ?

burritopunk

26-07-2006 22:15:37

BB should have a return policy of 14 days. Keep checking stock then return it. I bought a laptop once and it had 1 dead or unstuck pixel. There's no reason you should keep equipment that has a defect, it will bother you forever.

Wolfeman

Damn. That deal on PC connection is sexy. I think I found my new LCD monitor wink Thanks to dmorris and wolfeman ) (++K)

I was a little leery about the BenQ since CNet's review said they use inferior parts and the screen isn't too clear. And I'm not too crazy about Dell. That is a pretty good response time and nice features for that price.

Edit I just noticed, Newegg has it for $280 after $60MIR.....$8 cheaper than PC CX

Rebate won't work. It excludes CDW, BestBuy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Fry's, J&R, and Micro Center. PCConnection is your best price

Increased productivity (ie double the porn)

burritopunk

27-07-2006 07:48:12

also, samsung is a great brand not only because of the quality of their LCDs, but they warranty their monitors for 3 years opposed to 12 months. The first year, they have a "no dead pixel" guarantee. just thought i'd share.

The price is good but the vertical resolution is not...

Vector

i have that monitor, and i use it horizontally... i think you will need another stand to use it vertically...

Wolfeman

27-07-2006 10:31:50

LOL, no the resolution of the monitor is 1440 x 900. A regular (non-wide screen) 19" monitor can get 1280 x 1024. My 20.1" has a 1600 x 1200 resolution which is very, very nice )

Its not a big deal until you have them and then you can't live without them. I use them a lot of times to watch DVDs or TV on one monitor and browse the net on the other. Also when I am working and have a spreadsheet open in one monitor and an email open on the other its so great instead of having to ALT-TAB back and forth.

[spoiler85933f7591]Plus it looks super cool, like you are in the Matrix...[/spoiler85933f7591][/size85933f7591]
