discuss your teams trades...
I'll start, I don't really think the yankees needed abruea, seems kind of wasteful. I would have preferred a starter, a reliever, or a decent utility player who can be a back up catcher. The yanks trade of chacon for wilson today baffled me even more, seeing as how they already have phillips backing up 1b, and now they have bernie, melky, and sheff backing up in the OF.
Does this make sense to anyone?

They needed a solid hitter, to bat behind A-Rod who is still majorly slumping. The Yankees needed a spark, to propel them into October, and they chose Abruea and I think he is a good choice for that.

yeah, they made some good moves, as an abreu fantasy owner I am happy with this trade, because he has been in a slump. Hopefully the move to a different markey with less presure on him, and a better lineup around him will jumpstart his numbers. They got a potential #4 starter too.
I am happy with the rangers moves getting carlos lee.

I can see how Abreau trade is justified in short term, but I wouldn't be surprised if hes only playing part time come playoffs. Any insight on Chacon trade? I don't think the yanks really need wilson, and while chacon is pitching like shit, I'd rather have a shitty pitcher who has played well in the past, than a shitty hitter who has played well in the steroid amphetamine era.

yyyyyyeahhhh Bobby [b022d62c9df]Abreu[/b022d62c9df]
He'll be a solid addition especially in the absence of Matsui and Sheffield.

you hate baseball, basketball and soccer. So are they any sports that you like?
and to freedesktoppc, chacion was expendable because they got Cory Lidle.
If they got abreu it wasnt to rent him, i'm guessing they are not picking up sheffields option next year. Prior to this year Abreu was the far better player of the two.

even so, the yankees need more pitching than hitting, and I'd rather keep chacon around hoping he can pull it thru for the stretch.
As far as sheff vs. abreu, i think to say abreu is better is a bit much. Here are stats from 02- 05
Abreu
SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
2002 Phi 157 572 102 176 50 6 20 85 104 117 31 12 .308 .413 .521 .934
2003 Phi 158 577 99 173 35 1 20 101 109 126 22 9 .300 .409 .468 .877
2004 Phi 159 574 118 173 47 1 30 105 127 116 40 5 .301 .428 .544 .972
2005 Phi 162 588 104 168 37 1 24 102 117 134 31 9 .286 .405 .474 .879
Sheffield
2002 Atl 135 492 82 151 26 0 25 84 72 53 12 2 .307 .404 .512 .916
2003 Atl 155 576 126 190 37 2 39 132 86 55 18 4 .330 .419 .604 1.023
2004 NYY 154 573 117 166 30 1 36 121 92 83 5 6 .290 .393 .534 .927
2005 NYY 154 584 104 170 27 0 34 123 78 76 10 2 .291 .379 .512 .891
The OPS which is one of the most impt. stats IMO goes to sheffield by a bit.
eh, now that I look at it, they're pretty comparable. I never really thought of Abreu in that light, but sheffield has more power, and he has performed in the clutch, so I think I would rather have him.

Well abreu has tons more stolen bases, a higher average, a higher OBP. He also has the most pitches per at bat this season. He fits in with the yankees patient hitters, and helps them wear down starting pitching early.

I don't hate basketball, I love it, but I hate the NBA, college is the way to go. And yes, I like the NFL and NCAA football. Curling is also a favorite.
Baseball is dead to me.. with the whole steroid scandal and all, and the fact that Barry Bonds was actually allowed to beat Babe Ruth's record is infuriating. It just doesn't feel the same anymore..... That or it's because the Mariners suck and I don't have a team to root for.

Yeah, we get WGN here and they show all the Cubs/Sox games.
Then we have FSNW and we get all the Mariners games as well...

Curling is sweeet. It's basically bocce on ice.
I noticed that if you sign up for that MLB Sports Pass, all the other states have Blackouts in effect for some of the games.. But here in Alaska, if you sign up for an MLB Sports Pass account there are no blackouts in effect. shrug
