I have been wanting to get this service from Verizon for a while and I have just learned my apartment complex is having it installed by the end of the month. I am going to get both the FiOS TV and internet. They have a nice TV package - 180 channels for 40 bucks and their internet goes up to 30Mbps!!! That is insane! I am just going to settle with the 5Mbps for 35 bucks. The service is very limited and not many people have it. Does any one here has it? How is the quality and service?

dsl performance depends greatly on how close you are to their central office... so just because other people in point A get great speeds/uptime
doesnt mean that you in point B will.... /

Our local utility company has the same thing (not called FiOS, that's Verizon's brand name for the same type of residential fiber service). Everybody I know who has it loves it. My neighborhood is 1 or 2 phases away in their implementation plan, since I live just outside the city limits, but virtually the entire city here is covered. Very nice from what I've seen, and several friends who have it are loving it. You can get phone, TV, and broadband or any combination thereof. I think residential broadband is sold as 1.5, 3.0, and 4.0 speeds here though, but business accounts can get much more. $35 for 5Mbps is a pretty good price though, cheaper than 3Mbps here.

This isn't DSL. It's fiber. No degradation over distance since it's optical.

Last I read, they weren't rolling it out in NYC because the technology to lay down fiber optics in apt buildings, "didn't exist". Guess they figured it out. Hopefully they're make it to Brooklyn...

I wanted to get it actually. but Its not available in my area. I have Optimum Online and it costs me 50$ A month. Recently those goons limited my upload speed to 2kb/s because I "Uploaded" too much. Wtf. I pay for my internet I upload whatever I want. Took like 4 days to get it resolved. [Kept calling them]. When Fios is available im going to grab the 10 Megs or so Down D

Never live in a rural area, it's not worth it.
romanodog, you getting a pretty good deal. The sales lady I talked to offered me the 15Mbps for $40 which is $5 bucks more than 5Mbps. When I told her I wasn't going to get it right now, she tried to rush me off the phone x. Oh well, their customer service might suck, but they have a good deal on the FiOS.

I have had fios internet for a pretty long time. I love it, I have the 15/2 service, never had a problem. Today I got the Fios TV with DVR in my room and so far I like it. It has alot of VOD, with channels like Comedy Central, A&E, NFL Network, and MTV having VOD, there are shows that you can watch anytime. Picture is sharper than my regular cable, but I am only on a standard defination tv so I didn't see too much of an improvment.

I got 30 down and 10 down I believe, it might even be 15 down. Everything is so nice and fast and only like $45 a month I believe. I get about 25 down on a consistent basis. Cox is awesome except for their TV prices. ( The $99 bundle became over $145 after the deal was over. They got cash back offers now which isn't that good. Oh well.

I get the deal price for 2 years and will probably not even be living here that long. I also get a $100 gift card when I am with the service for 60 days.

I hope he is. I know my parents have Time Warner but for the price you are all getting for that download speed...I might convince them to switch.
I have SHITTYYYYYYY download/upload speed here at home for the summer.

Just created a network bridge!
The new router is too far away from my main PC which is wired to my Netgear WNR834B router. Now I can just use this router as an access point of sorts (technically a network bridge). Sweet! Thank God for dd-wrt!!

Nope. DirecTV.
Comcast is the only decent provider here (you know it's bad when you call Comcast a decent provider) and that's how much I was paying for about 4 down and 768 up.......then we had some trouble with our line, nobody could figure it out and when it was finally fixed we were then on the above line.

Damn, I pay $70 including taxes for the second level of cable, and internet. You might want to call Comcast and tell them you're going to switch unless you get a better price.

I pay a few bucks over $200/month for fiber server, which includes
- Landline phone with most of the bells & whistles
- Digital HDTV service with 3 HD-DVRs and 1 HD non-DVR box, almost all the channels
- 9MB/2.5MB internet with a static IP
As high as it is, it's without doubt the best option we have locally. Local cable and DSL services suck by comparison, when you factor in the total package, so I'm happy to pay more.

I'm trying to get my parents to switch so I did some shopping and all the bundles look pretty swell.
