	Here is my problem
I got into a fight with my roommate, he hit me first and punch him and knock him down, due to that he was bleeding and needed stitches, so he went to the hospital. Now I get a summon saying that I owe him $2,500 in hospital fees. I have 2 witness that saw he threw the first punch.
The summon says I have to respond in 20 days, if anyone with law experience could give any advice would be appreciate it.
This happen in Tucson, AZ so Pima County is handling the case.
Thanks.

Im no law expert, But if you have witnesses saying he threw the first punch You can go along with self defense and it won't cost you anything.

In my opinion, you should prosecute him for assult, and then sue him for emotional damages because you thought he was your best friend, and now he has hurt you forever. You can't put a price on emotional trama so just name a huge figure of money.
BTW I live in Scottsdale, Arizona.

If he hits you first, with witnesses, its self defense as long as you did not hit him while he was on the ground-- you are good, and could counter-sue.

Contact a local lawyer; it will cost you far less than $2500.
