ok, so i have a dell 8300 as my gaming computer. I first turn it on and everything is great. about 30mins into gaming or just being on the computer for awhile, the computer just starts roaring with the sound of fans.

I don't really want to put a water cooling system in it, so what exactly do i need to upgrade to reduce the noise of fans? the cpu fan? that it?

is something like this what i'd want http//www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118223

Yeah, those are very quiet and cool really well. I have a Zalman on my CPU, GPU, and also a case fan.

ok, so if I got one for my cpu, would it be wise to upgrade the case fan as well or is that just a gimmick?

You'll want to keep the hard drives cool too, so you need a case fan if you don't do any water cooling.

If it's noisy, get a 120mm fan to replace the noisier small ones.

My next door neighbor has that cooler...nothing to special...it's very big!! Mine used to restart like you said during gaming....i put fans infront of my hdd....that seemed to help a lot.

i have no problem with the computer restarting...it's simply that it runs sooo loud (due to fans).

You should only need one or two 120mm's. More small ones = more noise.

In general, you should cool in this order of importance

CPU
GPU
Chipset (Northbridge)
Case (Back, then front)
HDD (Individual coolers)
Chipset (Southbridge)

In general, individual HDD cooling is really only important if a case fan isn't blowing in it's direction, like if you you're using one of the upper drive bays.
