I almost never use AIM. If I log on, it's usually just to see whether my girlfriend is on at the moment. Most of the 200+ buddies I had in college have realized this, and no longer IM me.

Except one.

She's an old friend of my girlfriend and me. We still see her every few weeks, but she's only bearable in small doses.

Every time either one of us signs on, she finds some stupid reason to send us a message. Half the time it makes no sense. It's always annoying.

So now we both toss up a preemptive away message every time we sign on. Most of the time, it works. But today, I put it up just a split-second before she wrote me.

Still, I laughed at the outcome...
