Ugh, nothing is sacred these days...
Sunday night, I was looking through the TV listings, and noticed late that night that the local NBC station, which usually has reruns of "Enterprise" on (God knows why, it's utter crap), had Star Trek (TOS) listed to air. I thought it was a mistake, but I planned on being up anyhow, so I watched, and it was true, Kirk, Spock and McCoy were on broadcast TV agan. First time in 15 years too. Cool, I thought, but unimportant, since I have them all on my HD.
What was weird, was that the theme music sounded different somehow, not like the change after the pilot, but crisper. I wondered if they remastered the sound for this new syndication and that was why it was on, but then I saw it.
They pulled a Lucas.
It seems no one can leave anything goddammned well enough alone anymore. They went and added scenes, tweaked others, and apparently removed some for time. I only caught the second week of this with the Horta episode (the guy in a pizza suit on all fours). Apparently, last week was the first, and they did the Romulan one (one of the best). I saw a torrent of that today, and I couldn't believe they actually removed scenes. Apparently the entire butchered series is to come (out of order too) over the next 2 years.
Of course, it's probably all for a DVD release next year. roll
